How the spreadsheet works:
- There are 4 different sheet tabs.
1. Official Challenge Sheet
- This is the main one.
- All points auto-populate so you don’t have to calculate anything yourself. Just fill in the right boxes and points will appear. Please don’t mess with the points coding! If you do by accident or you think it’s not working properly please let me know, don’t try and fix it yourself if it’s not a simple fix.
- Please use the British date method for filling in the start and finished read boxes like dd/mm/yy NOT the American method. Check out the Example Sheet for reference.
2. Tracking Sheet
- This is informal and optional, you don’t have to use it but it’ll make things easier for you so I recommend you do.
- This time (I didn’t do this for the last Challenge) all the boxes align with the Official Challenge Sheet do you can copy paste the whole row from the Tracking Sheet into the Challenge Sheet to save you time.
3. Task Guidance
- This gives more guidance on tasks so please check this sheet out. It’ll be very useful for some tasks that are specific. I tried to foresee where a task might be confusing and then clarified what counts and doesn’t count for ambiguous tasks.
4. Example of Challenge Sheet
- This is just a duplicate of the Official Challenge Sheet to show you how you should fill in the Official Challenge Sheet.

Hey ladiesss! Just wanted to let you all know that I’ve messaged each team member to let them know the teams have been announced. If any of your team members haven’t checked in on your team’s discussion page by 27th July please let me know!
@Jessica awesome! All of Team C have checked in too. Almost all of Team D’s members are absent and half of my team. Hopefully everyone appears in the next few days, if not I’ll send out another message to all missing members and this time I’ll include the correct link😂
Yeah fingers crossed! Because it doesn’t seem like a good idea to move people to different teams in order to balance the teams out if people are missing. It’s an option but not an ideal one. Hopefully it won’t have to come to that...
Oh and guys, when your team members have all decided on a team name please let me know here and I can change the discussion page titles and spreadsheets appropriately before I invite everyone to their team’s spreadsheet.

@Jessica well there’s no rush so take your time to discuss it with your team members!
@Aeriell is that Merlin from The Lost Years? He doesn’t have a last name so in that case it’d be fine to use it as a team name if all your team members like it too. It’s actually a really great team name, I wish I’d have thought of it!

@Lynn awesome! That just leaves my team now, I think I’m waiting on one more person.
Also that’s a good question. So every task is individual. To put it simply: one book read by one member completes one task. Once people see the spreadsheet it’ll probably seem simpler to understand.

@Aeriell yeah please let me know what team name you decided on here!
@Jessica oh man that's really annoying. ŷ has been really annoying about html links lately. I've fixed them all so they should work now. But yeah it's just the same link as I showed you before except I thought I'd share it with everyone this time.

Yeah so guys if anyone on your team has noticed the links are not working in that message about the short books, please let them know the links are now working!

Hey Aeriell, it says in the rules here:
“WHAT COUNTS AS A MIDDLE GRADE BOOK:
- Must be more than 100 pages long.
[...]
- *For audiobooks*: The print edition must be more than 100 pages long.
- *For graphic novels*: must be more than 150 pages long.
Hopefully that helps your team member!

We, at Team C, are going with Merlin and I had someone ask this:
The Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles Crossover, is a trilogy. Each books are only 60 pages long. I have already read the first book, so because minimum page limit is 100, can I count the second and the third for one prompt?
Would it count or no?
@Lynn @Aeriell awesome! I’ll change the team names on the spreadsheets and discussion pages then. Just Team B left now because in Team A we have decided on Team Lucy Pevensie!
Also Aeriell unfortunately it’s not possible to combine short books like that to meet the minimum page requirement. The book on its own must be more than 100 pages long. My suggestion to your team member is if they want to read multiple short stories they could try and find a book that is a short story collection instead. Hope that helps!

abigael-kala hasn’t posted anything in a couple days, so there’s still a possibility, but I’m fairly sure sirius black will be whats the final choice
@Jessica okey dokey I’ll put it as Sirius Black on the spreadsheet. If you want me to change it anytime before August 1st just let me know!
Update on the spreadsheets, guys:
I’ll be sending out email invites to you and all your team members to your team’s spreadsheet at midnight my time (pretty sure there’s a countdown for it on everyone’s discussion pages).
I’ll be giving all your team members editing access. Please coordinate with your team members about how they want to handle it all.
My suggestion is that you allow your team members to fill in the Tracking Sheet if they can/want to and then you as a captain can handle the official Challenge Sheet. That’s how I’ll be doing it with my team members but I’m overly fussy so whatever they enter in I’ll probably edit it to suit the way I want it.
Alternatively, you can have your team members tell you the information about their books on your team’s discussion page and you can enter it into the official Challenge Sheet as the captain.
I’ve added info in the second comment at the top of this discussion about the different parts of the spreadsheet so please check that out and if you have any questions ask away!

if the person reading it is the last member, can the person below them count as member 1?
@Jessica yeah I completely forgot to mention that I’m the Task Guidance Sheet so I’ll add that now but you’re right, the last member will take team member 1. as the member below them.
No problemo! Boy, it’s all kicking off tonight, huh! I’ve got like 15 messages to respond to😂 not gonna lie, I love it though, this is the fun part now. All organising aside, I’m excited to start participating!

@Lynn no to the first question. Yes to the second question but not in the way you probably think, so let me explain it with an example.
Let’s say both you and Amy read Three Keys from our Front Desk readathon.
When Amy applies her reading of Three Keys to task 1. A book from ANY of the group's series readathons then that task is complete and Amy has earned your team 1 point.
You can’t then apply your reading of Three Keys to task 1 because that task is complete.
BUT you can apply your reading of Three Keys to another task like task 11. A book with three people on the cover. That way you’ll earn a point for your team too.
Hopefully that makes sense and the example made it less complicated than it otherwise sounds.
Also that’s totally legit btw because that book is this month’s series readathon book so if anyone wants to use this example for their actual challenge then go for it😂

is half-human acceptable? or does the character need to be completely not human? for reference, this character is half-godling and half-human
@Jessica yeah I’d say half-human counts as being not human. Not that I’m judging who I’m guessing is Percy Jackson or someone similar😂

@Jessica I’m doing the same too, I’ve decided to read some new books instead of rereading old ones. Well, it sounds pretty cool so hope you enjoy it!

so far, i only plan on rereading 1 or 2 books, but that's because they're books i haven't read in like 75 thousand years and ones i've been wanting to reread for ages. ha i'm so excited to read lol

Let’s say both you and Amy read Three Keys f..."
I get it. Makes sense.

1. does the Frank Slide in Canada count as a landmark? i'm pretty sure it does, but i just wanted to double-check
2. is "freddy" close enough to "fred" to count for that task? or does it have to be JUST fred?
3. for a book set in fall, does the whole book have to take place in the fall, or can it just be a portion of the book? for example, a book takes place from september to april. would that count since it includes winter and spring?
4. is treasure specifically gold/precious stones, or can it be more up to interpretation and include friendship/healing/missing loved one/etc?
Hey Jessica, yeah I did add the "a"s on your spreadsheet😂 I thought someone would notice. Turns out some of the points coding wasn't working so I just spent an hour trying to figure it out. Once I figured it out I was just checking that it all worked properly. I did it for all the spreadsheets! I've finished the score spreadsheet and will be sharing that soon.
In answer to your questions:
1. Yes
2. No it must be Fred although if his real name is Fred and people call him Freddy as a nickname then that's fine.
3. Hmm I'm going to say the majority of the book should take place in fall so if the book has winter and spring in it then that's fine as long as the majority of the book is set in fall.
4. No treasure must be physical treasure like gold, diamonds etc.

and thanks for those answers!
@Jessica no problemo! I don't even know how I made the formula work in the end but I'm glad it does. It probably wouldn't have taken so long if brother hadn't been distracting me by watching Arrow in the background😂 I spent so long typing out those a's and I've just realised I should've copy pasted them. But at least it works now👏🏻
