Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 560 comments I'd quite like to read another Ishiguro (I've read The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go)

I have also heard that Zorba the Greek is really good, and I'm intrigued.

I've been meaning to read Schindler's List/Ark for years, but I bet most of you have already read it.

message 3: by Diane (new)

Diane | 2044 comments I have read all but the following 4 books, which are (oddly) mostly by James Kelman:

The Glass Bees
Busconductor Hines
How Late It Was, How Late
Kieron Smith, Boy

message 4: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I have read 19 and none of the others I own, so I will check if any of them are free somewhere and vote accordingly

Same here- I wonder what it is about Kelman
What I haven’t read:
In Parentheses
Storms of Steel
How Late It Was, How Late
Kieran Smith, Boy
A Disaffection
Everything You Need

I've read only 15 of these so there are several I could be open to. On my tbr shelf I have
An Artist of the Floating World
The Wings of the Dove
Spring Flowers, Spring Frost
Measuring the World
Kieran Smith, Boy

message 7: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I DO have The Wings I f the Dove. It’s long, but James is easy to read, it would be good to knock of a bigger book, so I think that’s what I will vote for.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Excluded from the Randomiser:

Remains of the Day
Fear of Flying
The Castle

message 9: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (yvonnep_23) | 14 comments I have only read 6 of these so don’t really mind what gets chosen this month. As long as it is something I haven’t read and can easily get hold of I will read them. I would prefer something more modern but not too fussy.

message 10: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1667 comments Also have a bunch of Kelman's to read. I saw Kieran Smith, Boy on here several times and would be down to vote for that one.

message 11: by Irem (new)

Irem A | 3 comments Everything You Need.. Something that I wouldn't be likely to read by myself like never let me go.

message 12: by Amie (new)

Amie (amie-b) | 80 comments I've read 8 from this list. I think that's the most I've ever had in these lists! I recently picked up a copy of Kelman's How Late it Was. I think I'll vote for that.

message 13: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2123 comments I have read 10 of these. I own How Late so I will probably vote for that but would be open to many others.

message 14: by Wayne (new)

Wayne Sweigart | 93 comments The Glass Bees sounds like it could be an interesting change of pace so it will get my vote.

message 15: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments Checked my shelf. The Wings of the Dove isn't there, so I won't vote

message 16: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1667 comments I can also do how late it was, how late if ppl are feeling that one

message 17: by George P. (new)

George P. | 701 comments I've read 11 of these, a bit less than usual, but most of the others don't interest me much. I'm planning to read Storm of Steel some day and probably A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. No more Henry James for me. I would probably have to order a copy of How Late it Was and probably wouldn't do that since I have a bunch of others I've bought that I haven't read yet.

Folks please be patient this month we may not be tabulating votes on our normal schedule. I was able to message Kristel but the 1001 shelf is not accepting messages. I will look into what is going on. Plus Kristel may want some family time so stay tuned.

I plan to post the winners on the 25th. I was able to get into the shelf personality. I only have votes from 3 people. One on shelf personality, and 2 to me.

You're not listed as a friend. Somehow friendship got dropped? I think to message me or the shelf personality you have to be friends. I sent you a friend request. I did not check to see if you are friends with shelf personality.

Irem A | 3 comments I couldnt figure out how to vote. Should be under polls, right? Is it already closed?

Hilde (hilded) | 375 comments Gail wrote: "Is anyone else having trouble voting? I can not seem to message either Kristel or bookshelf."

GR has changed the security settings again without giving info out beforehand it seems. Copied from one of my other groups:

Earlier this week Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ changed every user's privacy settings so that only friends can send them private messages.

You can change the setting back so that you can receive group messages and messanges from people you are not friends with. Go to your profile under the Settings tab, and under privacy settings there is a question about who can send you private messages. Change it back to "everyone".

Voting was very light this month. Either GR made it difficult or members did not care what they read in November. The winner by popular Vote is

38. How Late It Was, How Late 384 pgs

The Randomizer chose Zorba the Greek.

The TBR for October is #23.

Voting is closed. The instructions are at the top of this topic. We cannot use polls as our list is too long.
For the future. Here is how voting is done;

HOW TO VOTE:
1. Make your choice or choices from the list that is posted here.
2. You get one free vote and if you have participation points you can have up to 5 votes. You can use them all on one choice or you can make 5 choices.
3. Send a Personal Message to either me or the shelf personality for Reading 1001
4. If you only comment here on your choice it won't get counted so don't forget to send that message.

message 28: by H (new)

H | 124 comments Due to the GR update, I couldn't get my vote in and was away for the weekend so didn't really have time to investigate why I couldn't send a message. I will add the shelf personality as a friend though just in case something like this happens again.

I'm looking forward to reading Zorba the Greek, not too sure how I feel about the James Kelman one, will see if I fancy it come November.

message 30: by George P. (new)

George P. | 701 comments Glad we got the message issue figured out- thanks Hilde. I went to my settings and reset to receive messages for everyone.
I have read Zorba and enjoyed it quite a bit. As I mentioned before, I will pass on How Late it Was. There's always next month, and I can work on my challenges.
