This is something extra, but it also reflects a change in my/NZ's circumstances. I started typing a big long explanation, but the short form is NZ has Delta, so I don't want to commit to anything I may not be able to do - like fossick through charity & secondhand book shops.
Tadiana is now very busy & Hana hasn't been online since August. I'm really worried about her, but I know the fonts on ŷ really bothered her eyes.
I think there are some books that people will want to discuss. If people want more than a one line summary, they can open a discussion thread in this folder - or see if there are existing discussions - for example there are threads for The Far Pavilions I think the Poldark books will lead to good discussions! & I'm hoping to carry on with the Thirkells, but I have never seen a single Thirkell in a second hand or charity shop. & Tadiana is still intending to do the Xmas reads, but if she is too busy I can step in. :)

Hana, if you see this, sending positive thoughts and good wishes- Tadiana, busy or not, take care of yourself! And Carol, keep being careful, I know you’re tired of it, but hang in there!

So true, so many wonderful titles -and we barely touched nonfiction, children’s or YA, or mysteries (and our retro period covers the plentiful Golden Age of British mysteries!)

More books the merrier Elinor but you don't have nominate any books if you don't want to. :)
I'll add your name to the list.

Hi Tadiana!
You may not have done anything with your notifications - ŷ is getting a lot of complaints with people not receiving them. I just run my eye down the group page every morning, to make sure I don't miss anything.

Welcome Susan!
The reason for no Mary Stewart & no Georgette Heyer is that Tadiana moderates a group for Mary Stewart & I moderate a group for Georgette Heyer - & as much as we love their works, we do like reading other authors!
The bookshelf should give you a pretty good idea of what we read :) /group/books...

All that is to say, if someone wants to propose or read a Mary Stewart book in this group, I won’t object. 😊

That is true. And I miss a lot of updates for the same reason. You have to remember to click on "notify me." I had to cut way back on my reading this year when my job changed as well. I have missed reading with most groups I am part of it. I might be interested but don't want to commit. I will watch to see what is added.

1. The Man-Eaters of Tsavo
2. Slowly Down the Ganges
3, The Rainbow
4. Fahrenheit 451
5. The Secret Garden
Hope these books fit the brief

I think I'm missing from that list. ;)
Also, is it ok if I start my own thread here to keep track of my Book Pool reads instead of posting under the main thread (when it's unfrozen)?

Sorry about that Cindy! I've added you now. :)
You are welcome to start your own thread in the Book Pool, but please post when you have completed in the Book Pool page as well. /topic/show/... otherwise it would be too difficult for me to keep track if I have to check multiple threads. :)

Hi Wayne
The time period for this challenge is 1920-1980 see /topic/show/... (scroll down a bit) so your numbers 2 & 4 are fine, but if you could choose another three books?
Thanks!

No problem, somehow I misread it as 1900 to 1980.

So still to choose all/some of their books
Allegra (4 books)
Tadiana (5 books)
Wayne (3 books)
Susan C (5 books)
Kim K (5 books?)
After 11.59pm (PST) people can still decide to join, but they can't add any more books. :)

It is probably me not explaining things clearly.
Here is one of the Book Pools in the BLK group. I've pinpointed the moderators explanation, then if you read a few more posts you will see how it is done /topic/show/... :)

Thanks, Carol, makes sense - a lot of work for you, with all the tallying up! It helps to see it “in action!

1. Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing
2. The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas S. Kuhn
3. Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain
4. Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis
5. The Source by James A. Michener

Oh that would be better and easier for us both, I didn't realize you would be keeping count as well as ourselves.
Suggestion: Bookmarking the thread might make it easier for everyone keeping track, especially if notifications stop working!

Yes, that is the one. Thank you. I think you caught me while I was still editing the post. Notice my 5th choice is different than when you first read it. So sorry, thought I was fast enough to catch the error, but you are faster.

No worries!"
Can you change my 5th choice. So sorry. It is listed correctly now.

The Stranger by Albert Camus
They Came to Baghdad by Agatha Christie
A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin
The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers
Star Soldiers by Andre Norton (a double set of two shorter novels, Star Guard and Star Rangers).
Driven mostly by books I happen to have on hand and haven’t read yet. :)

I could buy them from an overseas seller but Thirkell doesn't appear to have been a big seller in NZ. & a lot of the charity shops don't seem to have the old books any more.

3. Gaudy Night by Dorothy Sayers
4. Bride of Pendorric by Victoria Hilt
5. Neither Five Nor Three by Helen MacInnes
ok no more books can be added, but people are welcome to join any time during the year.
I'll close this thread now & set up an example in the other thread tomorrow.
