Hi All, putting up an early post this week due to the holiday weekend in US.
Hope anyone who is celebrating has good, safe, holidays that are as stress free as possible.

We're doing a Michigan-only family dinner, I made my rolls over the weekend and have them frozen for tomorrow. Luckily don't have to host, it'll be at my aunt's. Everyone involved has been at least basic vaccinated, most the older have gotten boosters. I'm hoping to get one this weekend, but should be alright for dinner.

Book Club: I put up a final thoughts thread for A Spindle Splintered! It's pretty short so I didn't put too many questions. Feel free to post your thoughts!

This week I finished:

A Spindle Splintered - I liked this, i thought it was an interesting take on a fairytale retelling. I'll try to remember to post more over on the thread later haha.

The Tower of Nero - this was a good conclusion. Not my favorite of his series, but still solid. I liked that a god could still learn to be a better person.

Alien, Vol. 1: Bloodlines - catching up on some comics, good and creepy. I think it takes place after Aliens, timeline wise.

Alice in Leatherland - this was a cute queer romance, nice art.

Mile High with a Vampire - Pretty typical for the series, they're good fluff reads. I'm kinda annoyed that she's messing with her own lore, but i guess that's what happens when your fluffy vampire romances stretch into a 30+ book series.

Currently reading:

The Last Graduate - This is good so far, bracing myself for the cliffhanger ending everyone keeps mentioning.

Cress - still doing audio re-read

QOTW:

I'm lazy, what are your plans for the weekend? Holiday if you're celebrating, or just what are you up to if not?

Jen W. (piratenami) | 353 comments I had one finish last week, plus a bunch of short manga.

Lost in the Never Woods - I definitely thought this was weaker than Thomas's debut, the excellent Cemetery Boys, but I also believe they wrote this one first. The middle dragged a little bit, but things picked up around 75% and the ending was good.

I'm currently reading The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks. Enjoying it so far. It takes place about 18 years after the first book in the series, so the original character are now in their 30s.

QOTW: We're having our usual quiet Thanksgiving at home, just me, my partner, and his mother. Since I'm vegetarian, Dev's mom roasts a turkey breast for the two of them, and I cook almost everything else. My pie is already cooling on the counter. I made it during my work lunch break. :D

The day after Thanksgiving is what my partner has affectionately termed "Christmas Bomb". Basically, it's the day we put up the tree and decorations and get ready for Christmas.

Rebecca | 296 comments Just one for me this week, too.

There There - I am late to this (as usual), but it lived up to all the hype. Told from the perspectives of various Native people in the Oakland area whose stories become increasingly entwined. Absolutely recommend, would reward discussion in a book-club-type setting.

QOTW: We are going to my in-laws' place at the beach and eating lobster. I think it will be fun.

Just one finish for me this week. I flew through Where the Crawdads Sing. I did not quite expect the ending. I certainly didn't expect her to be the poet too. Although honestly when it came to the poems in the book I kind of skimmed through them to get back to the story. Generally I liked the book.

I am "this close" to finishing The Thursday Murder Club on audiobook. I will probably go for a walk in the morning before the festivities and finish it.

I started reading Screwdrivered because I need a mindless romance novel in my life right now. Work is crazy and stressful the past week.

QOTW: Our youngest is coming here from out of state. The three of us will go to my friend's house. The five of us will probably play board games and eat great food. Our youngest is also a good friend of our friends so it isn't weird that she'll be there with us. We're happy our older two kids and their partners (one spouse, one boyfriend) are together out west where they both live.

Have not had much energy for reading this week, so I am still on Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law. I'll probably finish soon though!

I did finish The Witches with my daughter (I used it for the banned book prompt), and she loved it so much she asked for more from Roald Dahl. So we're going to start Matilda next :)

QOTW: My parents and sister are coming in for a visit, but they're flying out today (Thursday - flights were way cheaper) so we are going to have Thanksgiving tomorrow instead, because who cares?

Trystan (trystan830) | 91 comments finished Leopardstar's Honor and Dream Country.
now I'm reading Season of Mists. .... moving right along.

i DO have the next Becky Chambers book at the library, which I'll get Monday or Tuesday,

QotW: mom and older daughter will be here for Turkey Day. younger daughter is with her boyfriend's family, but they'll pop in and say hi for a little bit when my mom is here.

the rest of the weekend? running a register at a craft store, like I do every weekend. fun stuff.

Marina | 31 comments Hello! I completely fell off the posting bandwagon - kept being late, thinking I'd just do the next week, and repeat. I have been reading and enjoying everyone else's posts though!

Just one finish this week, Sword and Pen, the last in the Great Library series. Not bad, and a suitably optimistic ending to the series. Finished that off today, and not sure yet what I'll pick up next.

QOTW: Being neither American nor living in the States, no holiday stuff this weekend. But I've got a driving lesson, a netball session, and a dinner with some friends to look forward to, so it should be a nice couple of days.

Kathy Klinich | 175 comments Some vintage rereads for me this week. Read The Curse of the Pharaohs, the second Amelia Peabody. I am excited there are so many Amelia Peabody fans at FoE; I read most of them as they were coming out, so nice to see other people still enjoying them now. The introduction of her son is one of my favorite parts of this series. This will probably be my targeted reread of a favorite series this year.
My other finish was The Recycled Citizen, which is the favorite series I'm rereading this year. Didn't age quite so well as others but it was fine.
I hosted my third Thanksgiving ever; we have traveled to relatives the 27 other years I've been married, and this is first time I've had my in-laws. It went pretty well, and they haven't been here since well before times, so nice to have them. My BIL and nephew had a great visit to our local comic book shop and record stores, so happy they had an enjoyable outing.
