I've only read Dissolution. The Shardlake series is a favorite of mine. Enjoy your reading challenges.

message 4: by John (new)

John I'm liking that you've gone with so much nonfiction!

Lea (leaspot) | 3458 comments John, this list has a lot of variety on it, I like it very much. I've only read Into Thin Air, but I've been wanting to read Columbine for a long time. It very narrowly missed making my Individual Challenge. Hope you enjoy the books you selected! Happy reading!

Carolien (carolien_s) | 502 comments A really interesting selection, John. Levant looks fascinating. Enjoy your list!

message 8: by Zora (new)

Zora I liked Parable of the Sower and I was blown away by Columbine, just a brilliant NF book that'll rip your heart out, and with a 4.26 avg rating here, so obviously I'm not the only one who loved that one. (his book on Parkland was not as good for me, alas). Great NF selections here. Enjoy your 2022 reading!

Ioana | 2065 comments Some good books on this list, John. I've read and loved Parable of the Sower, Into Thin Air and Columbine. I'm interested in a few others, so I can't wait for your reviews. Hope you'll enjoy all your selections.

Seems to be the way I read. I can't do a lot of fiction back to back. Not sure why that is.

Bonnie | 678 comments I LOVED Parable of the Sower- one of my few 5 star rated reads.

Martha (marthas48) | 766 comments Great list! I've only read (listened to) Columbine. It's a stunning account of a horrendous day in America.

I loved Parable of the Sower and am trying to sneak in a reread so I can read the 2nd book. So many parallels to what has been going on in the last 5-6 years, that its creepy. Great pacing, so I hope you enjoy it.

I have the 1st of Matthew Shardlake on my TBR, as well; and True Grit is a must!

Good luck and happy reading, John!!

I am so glad you enjoyed it. It was one of my favorites last year.

John (uneasyrhetoric) | 39 comments Just finished Parable of the Sower. Powerful book. I think probably moreso for me because as the group travels they pass through terrain familiar to me, and in a time only three years from today.

So glad that you liked it. Book #2 is equally good.

John, really glad to hear you enjoyed Parable of the Sower so much. Yes, think it becomes even better if you know an area well that the author is referring to.

I just did a reread of this book. I loved it as much as the first time.

I'm so glad you liked it, too. If this was your first Jon Krakauer book, you should read his others.
