I read the book, The Guide. I was inspired to read this book by the GR20 in Corsica, France. In the descriptor for GR20, the following adjectives are used which all occur in the Rocky Mountain area described in the story: character building (big time and mostly what the book is about), grit to hike (multiple instances), forests, glacial lakes, torrents, rocky and uneven paths, exposed scrambles and rustic mountain refuges. (The entire book was set at a rustic mountain lodge.) I was delighted at all the connections in this thrilling story!

Just noticed when I reported my book, it’s the same as yours. I thought it was an ok book but not the thriller I expected. And I didn’t pick up that there’s a servant in the book.

I think that I liked it so much because I read The River. Jack was one of the main characters. It was better than The Guide, but I really enjoyed finding out what happened to Jack. The setting was a perfect setting for me as I am definitely a mountain girl.
I had to think about servant. I guess since they were not free to leave, I thought that many of the paid help (maid, cook) were then servants. I also thought the children were servants although slaves might be a better word. So, either 8 or 10 points however you look at it.

The book I read is the first book in the Niuhi Shark Saga
One Boy, No Water.
The trail info indicated that it is the best trail for sea views.
The book is set in Lauele Town, Hawaii. The story features two beaches, one for kids and one for surfers on the other side of the old lava flow. Can you imagine being allergic to water and living right on the ocean shore in Hawaii?

I would like to thank Almeta for bring the book title to my attention and for Kindle for having all three books in the trilogy for $4.95 each. I bought all three. I am currently reading the third book.

I read In the Shadow of The Pali: A Story of the Hawaiian Leper Colony for Kalalau Trail, Hawaii. The book set in Molokai, which has similar topography with Kalalau in Kauai with its cliffs, rugged slopes, valleys, coastal areas. Kalalau Trait is along Na Pali coast, and the title contain Pali word which means 'cliff'. There were scenes where the characters climbed the pali. The site mentioned 'splendidly remote Hawaiian beach'. The word 'remote' reminds me about Molokai being an exile for leper colony. The trek is best for sea views. When climbing the pali, the MC could see the sea surrounding the island.

"the day angry voices pushed aside his priest, .... hewn from his alter and rolled down the ravine"
9 points

If that was meant for me, I had not finished updating. Had to go find the quote about the priest.
Should be accurate now.

For my hike, I chose Markha Valley Trek, Ladakh, India. Whew, it was a long hike and I just barely finished it! The task was to read a book set in India. This book was the 7th in the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes series. They travel to the northern part of India in search of a missing intelligence agency. This novel is set in 1924 when India was a part of the British Empire. Sherlock and Mary have to go in disguises. The cast of characters includes a communist agent, Indian gurus, and a crazy Maharajah. Definitely a worthy read.

Sorry! Missed this.
Backpacks, I zoomed in 200% and still couldn't see them. I know they would be wearing them, so I understand. But I can't see them.
People employ Sherpas now. I would have said they were servants at one stage, but I wouldn't say now days.
