A couple of things to keep in mind:

Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.

Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Wednesday/Saturday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Thursday/Sunday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.

If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain period of time, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the time period in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)

If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.

We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.

If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!

Captain's Handbook

The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.

The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role for every roll, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.

Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.

Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.

If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.

The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Hi team!

I'm Denise, your friendly neighbourhood mod, 34 for a couple more weeks, residing in wintery Finland, owner of definitely absolutely not too many books and owned by two demanding felines.

I've been running this challenge for quite a while now and playing it for even longer, so I know all the rules and have the privilege of making up new ones if needed. :P

I'd prefer not to be captain as I'll likely be having my hands full with general administration stuff.

Louise | 1572 comments Hi Team,

I'm Louise from a rather cold Wales. I'm a certified challenge addict, can't resist a team challenge. This is my first time playing SSS but have played SS many times and needless to say that I am doing both this time around. Hopefully the dice will be favourable and I can make my weekly SS roll fit my SSS roll, and hopefully fit them into my other team challenges.

I'd prefer not to Captain I'll be busy Captaining UNO and don't want to risk letting the team down .

Review:
Looks like this is turning into a case of "getting worse with every book". The first one was pretty damn good, the second one not bad, and this one started out promising enough - the first half, especially the section set in Florence, had me hooked - but went rapidly downhill towards the end. I mean... WTF was that ending? Did someone challenge Harris to write the most ridiculously improbably ending to this book that he could come up with?

Review: I am not a huge fan of the fake relationship trope. Which is unfortunate since it seems it's all the rage right now. Every other book seems to be about a fake bf or fake gf. There's even a few series' that centers around that trope. But I usually enjoy Lucy Lennox and this seemed like a cute take on an overused trope. Ex-bf and ex-gf both show up back home with fake boyfriends. The ex-bf brings his straight best friend while the ex-gf brings her gay best friend. Then while they are all together they each fall for the other's fake bf.

Cute idea and the story started out okay. Then it got really slow in the middle. There was a lot of focus on the town and the people. The MCs don't spend a whole lot of time together. I was actually getting kind of bored.

Luckily I was listening to the audiobook so I was able to get through the slow chunk and finish. I'm not sure if I want to continue the series if all the books follow the same pace as this one did.

Final Rating 2.5 rounded up because the audio was good.

This was a rather enjoyable if predictable story. Cara and Travis were a couple in high school and hook up for a last summer fling whilst Cara helps Travis train his dog. The problem is they have never stopped loving each other but aren't able to admit it to themselves let alone each other. Will probably look at other books in this series.

Review: I'm slowly making my way through this series with my oldest daughter. Cute at first but after a while they all kind of run together. A positive note is that Tim Curry narrates some of the audiobooks and I could listen to that man every day for the rest of my life and never get bored. So I definitely enjoyed the narration even if the story itself was a little simple.

*Sigh*
Unfortunately, the Ravenels series doesn’t have the magic that the Wallflowee had for me.
The heroine Merritt is the daughter of Lillian & Marcus from It Happened One Autumn which was Wallflower Book 2.

Merritt’s a widow and business woman running a shipping company where she meets Keir, a Scottish whiskey distiller who uses Merritt’s company to ship his whiskey. Keir and Merritt have a tense exchange when some of Keir’s whiskey is lost in a shipping accident. But their chemistry is immediately apparent. But Merritt is highborn and Keir is just a common Scottish man. It doesn’t stop them from wanting each other. It was insta love which I don’t mind but I just never connected with the story. I haven’t connected with this generation of the series and that’s unfortunate.

Review:
Hailey Turner promised an epic ending for this series - and she certainly delivered.
It's all out war in this book, with mages, zombies, fae, vampires, werecreatures, valkyries, deities and pretty much anything else imaginable fighting it out in New York City as the Veil tears and Ethan is about to reach the goal he's working towards for decades. Patrick has some difficult choices to make, risking everything on a dangerous gamble with enormous consequences.
There's not much time for quiet moments and romance amidst all the action and chaos, and I still think less might have been more with the mixing of dozens of mythologies and supernatural beings in these books, but this final book delivers a satisfying ending and ties up all remaining loose ends.

Review
This is a series I dip in and out of over the years. It is an enjoyable British series with a female protagonist in a male dominated environment. This installment was just as enjoyable as others I’ve read in the series although I did feel I was missing out on some background from previous books. We see a Kate teetering on the brink of depression in this book as she struggles to deal with the death of her mother and her relationship with journalist Tin. Her mental state has her doubting her usually reliable gut instinct as they investigate a rash of apparent suicides at a local art college. As the case progresses Kate’s mental state worsens as decisions she makes reaches crisis point. Must go back to the beginning of this series and fill in the gaps
