Hi!

It's time to nominate non-fiction books for our second quarter NF group read. The nominations thread will be open through the 28th.

On March 1st, I'll put up a poll. The winner will be announced on March 15, which should give everyone who is interested some time to get the book if they are interested in starting it on April 1.

Let the nominations begin!

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 366 comments Bundini: Don't Believe The Hype

Savage Summit: The True Stories of the First Five Women Who Climbed K2, the World's Most Feared Mountain

Revolutions: How Women Changed the World on Two Wheels

Stealing Home: Los Angeles, the Dodgers, and the Lives Caught in Between

Yes, all are sports related but all carry powerful stories well beyond sports, especially “Bundini and “Stealing Home (my favorite of the bunch and if limited to one nomination, that’s the one)

Amy D. | 171 comments If I can second more than one, I'll second Stealing Home: Los Angeles, the Dodgers, and the Lives Caught Between. I'm glad I read the summary - nothing like I'd expect.

We did read 84, Charing Cross Road just two quarters ago, so while I liked it, we may want to wait a bit to repeat. (Although I did appreciate the length - easier for me to pick up one I'm not sure of when it's not too long!)

There is a second book after Charing Cross, if people are interested.

SO....... We have a lot of nominations and no rule in place (that I'm aware of) of any book HAVING to be seconded in order to be considered (someone correct me if I'm wrong?) -- I'm going to poll on all of them, and unless there's a very clear winner, we'll do a run-off poll for the frontrunners in a couple of weeks and arrive at a winner that way.

I'm going to leave off 84, Charing Cross, since it was recently read at LOABA, but I'll throw in Duchess of Bloomsbury Street.

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 366 comments My belief was to do this the same way as the “regular selection and need a second. When I got this started, we usually had only 3-4 nominations so there was no need for a second. Now, with all these great selections, I think we should follow the same process as the regular OTSP selection. Your call, though

Heh. I just spent the last hour doing the poll for all 27, so I think this time anyway we'll do this poll and a run-off of the front-runners if we don't have a clear winner by the 10th. It was confusing enough to put them into a poll the first time! LOL
