Aliana (aliananana) | 87 comments I'll be starting this tonight, can't wait to get started! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts too :)

Leslie Dauer-Creek | 280 comments Hey, I'd like to join this too! I started reading it but am behind the schedule. I was surprised to see that this was originally published in 1977 - it feels so far like a more "current" book. I don't know what to make of Peter - he seems cruel one minute but then caring the next and I can't tell what his core self is.

Aliana (aliananana) | 87 comments Hello hello welcome on board, super excited to hearing your thoughts! Oh wow, I didn't realised it was published that long ago, it really does feel like a more recent book. I'm a bit behind schedule (only on ch.6 atm) but gonna aim to finish it today.

Yep, Peter's morals are definitely confusing but I feel like he was a pretty decent example as an older brother, having taught Ender how to hide his emotions etc. Pretty interested to see what happens next 👀

Leslie Dauer-Creek | 280 comments I'm about halfway through and now I know why I was so surprised on when it was published. Actually, I was somewhat wrong - the original story this was based on was in 1977, but the original novel was published in 1985. Still, given the actions of the Wiggin siblings what seems amazing at this time of publication is that he is prescient not only of the internet ("the nets") but also of social media (with their posting of ideas and responding with others commenting, and the net news publications). but then there are reminders of the time of writing with the hinting of the Cold War escalation (not that the animosity of Russia and most of the rest of the world has really disappeared).

Brianna C | 1066 comments I have been reading this - in the middle of moving still so will update hopefully soon with thoughts on where I'm at and what not.

So I have mixed thoughts thus far. I primarily enjoy it and am intrigued as to what is going on. I sometimes struggle with science fiction to there was a learning curve as far as understanding the world. It honestly doesn't feel too much off from what we have going on in today in regards to where technology is at.
I really like Ender. It's easy to forget just how young the characters are overall. I'm curious to see what their endgame is with him. They are definitely prepping him for *something*.
I also don't really understand why there was that random interlude with Peter and Valentine. It'll be interesting to see what comes of that dynamic and whatever politic stuff they are stirring up.

Leslie Dauer-Creek | 280 comments There’s a definite purpose to the interlude that you will find out by the end of the book.
It’s also a tie-in with The Shadow Series which follows in Parallel to the Ender series.
I also found the ages to be easily forgotten throughput the book.
There is a couple of plot twists towards the end, one of which irritated / angered me and the other redeemed.

Brianna C | 1066 comments Chapters 11 - 15

Okay finally finished! I enjoyed it. It was good. Parts of it still don't make much sense - primarily what Pete and Valentine were up to. I do think the ending was rushed and I still don't understand how the buggers knew anything about what was in Ender's mind. There were definitely some things that surprised me which was nice - that it was predictable.

What plot twist bothered you and which one redeemed it?
