Outrageous (Rebels of The Ton, #2) by Minerva Spencer

Outrageous by Minerva Spencer

Synopsis:

Bridgerton fans and readers of Grace Burrowes, Sophie Jordan, and Alexa Aston won’t want to miss this clever and exciting new love story from the acclaimed author of Notorious.

When Eva de Courtney kidnaps Godric Fleming, her only plan is to stop the irritating earl from persecuting her beloved brother. But once she has the intriguing rogue in the confines of her carriage, she longs to taste the passion she senses simmering beneath his rugged exterior. Her forbidden plan is foiled, however, when Godric turns the tables, taking her hostage instead—and demanding they marry at once

The last thing Godric wants to do is make the fiery, impulsive Eva his wife, despite her delectable mouth and alluring innocence. He knows from experience that nothing is forever, not even love. But honor demands he do right by the lady, no matter how stubbornly Eva tries to hold on to her independence. And while the road to the Scottish border is beset with danger, Godric’s greatest challenge is to keep his hands—and his heart—from his captivating bride-to-be

You should read some books about Rome, but I don't even need to be in the mood :)

Maureen | 170 comments I was able to borrow Outrageous from Hoopla. The book has a great cover. This book was written a little differently from other HR's. There is some revenge, adventure, lust and good arguments happening in the story. I gave it 4 .
I hope you read and enjoy.

Merry (jewelhound) | 827 comments Ok now that June is here and I have the right month. I really did enjoy this book.

jenny867 | 59 comments For those who have already read this book, how important is it to have read the first in the series? I’d rather skip it based on reviews, but from what I understand this book deals with some of the fallout so I don’t want to be lost if I can help it. 😅

Missy (semi-hiatus) | 1447 comments @Jenny, I'm currently reading the book (on chapter 5 now) and I think you can read it as a standalone. I tried to read it as a standalone but I personally couldn't do it. I got too distracted by the background presented in the first 2-3 chapters of this book that I decided to read book 1 before continuing this book.

Missy (semi-hiatus) | 1447 comments I just completed chapter 5 of the audiobook. It's entertaining so far, which is what I expected of a road trip romance. Currently, I don't like Evie, but it could be the way the narrator is portraying her. But then again she is 19, so maybe I just prefer my heroines to be more mature.

Merry (jewelhound) | 827 comments In my usual method of doing things backward I have read book #3 then read this one. I did not have much problem with it. I have never read book #1 and I enjoyed this book a lot

Merry (jewelhound) | 827 comments I am at the 50% mark up to chapter 14; I have been scanning over what I read last month. (view spoiler)

Missy (semi-hiatus) | 1447 comments @Merry, I don't care for road trips in the Regency era. Oftentimes, the H/h meets unpleasant people and/or ends up in unpleasant situations, which stresses me out.

However, I enjoy medieval/highlander road trips (primarily due to Julie Garwood's books). If they do encounter trouble, the hero (typically a warrior) can save them, therefore, I'm less stressed. 😅

Merry (jewelhound) | 827 comments @Missy normally I don't like road trips in any era (including the ones I take lol) I don't know why I enjoyed this one so much. It does have the usual encounters with bad guys. It just seemed to have a bit more humor and perhaps inward reflection.

Lauren | 1296 comments I just finished. This was such an entertaining read! I've never enjoyed a bickering couple more. Their constant bantering was hilarious!

Missy (semi-hiatus) | 1447 comments I've finished the book. I gave it 2.25 stars.

While it was entertaining, my tolerance for the road trip and Eva started to grind my gears. I was relieved when they returned home. However, this last one-fourth of the book dragged for me, probably because we didn't get to see much of (view spoiler) until the end. I liked that Mia (view spoiler) Although I wish she could have done something sooner. I suppose after reading the last 20%, I did like how the author showed how (view spoiler).

Side note: I didn't like the inner monologues throughout the book, but, oh, well.

Has anyone read Adam and Mia's book, Dangerous? Adam and Mia are Eva's parents (father and stepmother). I really like Mia in this book and would like to read what she was like as a heroine. 😊

When I read the blurb for Book 3, I wondered how the characters were related to Eva's family (since some series are based on families or friends). Now I know the hero and his twin are the friends of the family since we see them briefly in this book. I read a review that mentioned they were attending Melissa's wedding (Melissa is Eva's younger sister). I wonder if she will be marrying Tommy. So yeah, I'll be reading that book to find out! 😁

Merry (jewelhound) | 827 comments Missy I think you have some really good points as I don't like most road trip books. For some reason this book just hit the spot for me. I also enjoyed the 3rd book as it was about redemption. I need to go and read book 1 to finish off the series in a totally backward way.

Gaea (gaea2003) | 2 comments @Missy I am only in Chapter 2 but I am in complete agreement. I was not a fan of Eva cackling like a hen, snorting and just behaving like a lunatic. I prefer my heroines to have a little more finesse.

Missy (semi-hiatus) | 1447 comments @Gaea, I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

Lady Nilambari Reads HR (ladynilambari) | 160 comments This is a re-read for me! I really enjoyed this story the first time, hope it’s the same during this read. So, starting today!

@Jenny - You don’t have to read the previous one. Just note that the hero from this - Godric - decides to kidnap the heroine from #1 and the heroine from #2 - Eva - spoils the plot, this is starting on book #2. The reasons for kidnapping become clear in this story. I did not like #1 all that much.

This was a solid four star read for me. I do love a road trip!!!! It was fun and I liked the development of the characters and the romance.

Eva was very annoying for the first few chapters, but as you got to know her she became more likeable. I think I would have benefited from reading book 1 (and also Mia and Adams story, Dangerous) as I spent the first few chapters trying to connect the dots. Then again at the end, a lot of Eva's family were introduced and it would have been fun to know them from a previous story.

The ending did go on a bit. I am not sure I needed to know so much about the breeding of horses....and I skipped over most of that description. It felt a bit like she was spinning it out.

However - the adventure was fun, there was a bit of suspense and intrigue and the steamy sections were steamy. Not a perfect story in many ways - but a really enjoyable read. I will certainly be reading other books from this author.

Merry (jewelhound) | 827 comments Lady and Susan, I also enjoyed this book and thought book 3 was enjoyable.

Peaktopeak | 34 comments I was worried about reading this out of order (I usually don't) but Spencer was new to me so I figured why not. The beginning certainly filled in a lot of what you needed to know so it worked out. I wondered how I would feel about Godric if I had read the first one since, after suddenly coming to his senses (!!), he seems to behave quite differently in this one.

But anyway ;-)

I liked this. Eva was immature maybe but she definitely wasn't passive which is also annoying. To be honest, I enjoyed the age difference, which is not always portrayed positively, but it just fit for these two. I agree that Godric was AWOL for too long in the end! LOL I will probably look for some of her other stories.
