Hey everyone, the Challenge is slowly drawing to a close so let’s all share some of our favourite reads from the challenge!

Were there any books you wouldn’t have read if not for a task or books you didn’t expect to like but did? Were there any hidden gems you stumbled across or new favourites you’d recommend to others?
Feel free to share below!

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Wow, I read some awesome books for this challenge! This was a fun experience; thank you so much, Kadi, for running it and to Team Mary Poppins for being the best teammates!

A few of the books that I read:

Dragon Ops by Mari Mancusi - I had never heard of Mari Mancusi and am grateful for Aeriell for introducing me to her books.

Ronia, the Robber's Daughter by Astrid Lindgren - I never knew Astrid Lindgren had written other books besides Pippi, so was happy to read this little gem introduced to me from another group member's recommendation!

The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips by Michael Morpurgo - I discovered this little gem because of the book adapted into a play or musical task. Interesting read.

I was able to further my reading in some series as well, like the Anne of Green Gables series and the Chronicles of Narnia. And started some great ones as well, like Magnus Chase and Aru Shah!

AurorainBookland | 676 comments Amari and the Night Brothers (Supernatural Investigations, #1) by B.B. Alston In honor of my teams name Team Amari Peters, and the task to read a reccomended book I read Amari and the Night Brothers. It was a good fantasy with a pinch of sci fi.

This year I decided not to reread any books so I read all new books and some I’ve been waiting to read for ages. But surprisingly I had no favourites!

The best ones were:
Nimona - This was so good I can’t believe I dropped it the first time I started reading it years ago

The Last Kids on Earth - I can’t wait to watch the Netflix adaptation now

Escape From Wolfhaven Castle - I randomly came across this one and really enjoyed it so it was a nice surprise

CraftyChara | 394 comments Was anybody able to find a book with a Hanukiah on the cover?

Only had 96 pages
How I Saved Hanukkah by Amy Goldman Koss

I couldn't get these at my library.
Penina Levine Is a Potato Pancake by Rebecca O'Connell
The Christmas Revolution by Barbara Cohen

AurorainBookland | 676 comments Escape from Wolfhaven Castle looks like a good read for October.

It’s not horror enough for October I feel but it was a good quick escape adventure type read.

AurorainBookland | 676 comments I don't do horror escaping from a castle gives me those haunted house vibes don't know why.

Actually when you put it like that I can sort of see it fitting the horror vibe. Imagine some fast paced violin music in the background whilst they’re rushing away from these indescribable leather creatures, yep seems horror enough!

Thank you so much for taking part! And I’m glad you had fun! I really enjoyed my experience of expanding my reading too!

Omg Adolphus Tips!! We read and studied that book in English in year 5! I still remember really dark point of the plot like that (view spoiler). This makes me want to reread it now, I’m going to add it to my reread TBR shelf.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 431 comments My favorites were Once Upon a Midnight Eerie (great Halloween book but not scary) and Magyk (great for Harry Potter withdrawal). Magyk was the last book I fit in, so I'm glad I read it even though it was a chunkster.

I reread a Michael Vey book, which are all old favorites. They work for so many challenges!

We didn't get around to the Hanukiah prompt. I didn't even look.

The only one I managed to find was The Little Book of Hanukkah

That was a really hard task. I like having these obscure ones because it makes you go and search for hidden gems and expand your horizon about topics you might not know about but this one was ridiculously hard so I'm sorry for that. Next year I'll spend some time trying to check each task is actually possible!

You did a great job finding those 2 by the way! The first one is especially impressive because the hanukkiah is so small on there.

I know of a handful of others that are also too short. Candlelight for Rebecca is the first that comes to mind. I'd really like to read The Christmas Revolution, but I think it must be out of print. At least I couldn't find it anywhere except a few used book sites, and I wouldn't have gotten it in the mail in time to read for the challenge.

Maybe to make up for it, next year a task can be a Star of David on the cover? I know several books that could fit that, and I'm sure I could find more if I looked.

CraftyChara | 394 comments The challenge was great and fun Kadi. Thank you very much for it.

Yeah, it was so small I almost didn't see it.

Tiffany: My library did have some Hannukah books but, the problem was that were all children books.

Anissa Michaud | 38 comments A book that I really enjoyed, although I'm not sure I would call it a favorite, was It Ain't So Awful, Falafel by Firoozeh Dumas. I don't think I'd ever read a Middle Grade book written in 1st person and certainly not one that was semi-autobiographical. I liked how the chapters were fairly short and some had funny names. Zomorod (aka Cindy) and her group of friends always kept me smiling too.

@Tiffany next year I’ll might incorporate a task about a different religion or multiple religions. And I’ll try not to make it impossible so people can actually read it this time. I don’t want to seem like I have an agenda towards a particular religion or religion in general, it’s just a nice way to see some diversity in what we read. And mg actually have a great track record for showing different perspectives, even moreso than YA I’d say. It’s pretty cool!

Yes, that spoiler you mention was heart-breaking. I thought the book was so interesting and I loved the MC.

There are 3 adaptations of it I think. Like 3 separate movie length animated "books" as they call them. There are a ton more actual books though so I'm not sure if it directly adapts them or just takes the ideas from them. The first one at least is probably worth a watch!
