message 2: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments The Hacienda or Book of Cold Cases I think so far would be my pick, although I haven't read Lies I Tell or Daisy Darker yet and I know I'm going to love those two.

message 3: by Trisha (last edited Sep 05, 2022 06:25PM) (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I feel like I've really failed this year! Because I have so so so many of these books sitting on my book shelf and I haven't read them yet!!

I did love Cold Cases and Haceinda!! but I'm wondering if it will be a heartfelt one, or eye opening one like:
True Biz by Sara Nović Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez Don't Cry for Me by Daniel Black

but I have them all, just haven't read them yet!! 😭😭

message 4: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments yea, don't feel bad, I'm in the same boat. I have 7 that I haven't read yet. I always feel guilty when I vote because I feel like I am short changing the ones I didn't get to. I'm really trying this year and next year to read the ones I get as I get them while also working on my extensive tbr to hopefully correct this neverending problem

message 5: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments BOTY has popped up for voting!

message 6: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments This might be the first round just for BFF's but I'm not sure!

Which one do you plan to vote for??

This round of voting goes through 9/21

message 7: by Madeline (new)

Madeline | 80 comments I voted for The Lincoln Highway but I've only read four of the books on the list. I'm trying to get to True Bix and Tomorrow x3 before the voting closes though.

message 8: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments trying to get thru Lies I Tell, and my plan was to read Daisy Darker in October but we have to vote for the 21st so I might push that one up too. Kaikeyi is one I keep hearing about, and I just bought it myself, I'm not sure I'll be able to get through that one though before the 21st. I've got a lot going on in my personal life, I'm actually moving right now, so reading has been on the back burner a little bit.

message 9: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments I see people in the Reddit thread are talking about voting for the ones they haven't read but want to, I guess hoping to be able to get it for free. Is anyone in here planning on doing that? Thinking about doing that makes me feel a little guilty, what do you guys think?

message 10: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I saw the same chats. . .I can see that being a way to vote for what you've heard is good - I definitely didn't read all the picks this year

but I own and/or have read every last one on the list but one. . .so I'm a bit torn about voting for one I've heard great things about and the possiblity that I won't have a book to pick when we get to the free one (and I have 2 bff accounts. . .)

message 11: by Emily (last edited Sep 14, 2022 06:05PM) (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 5 comments Jennifer, that's how I have always voted, since they moved to having a free pick for the BOTY finalists. I've read 6 of the finalists and have another 3 planned for before the end of the year on my shelf, but I'm voting Kaikeyi as that's one I've heard great things about and would like to have the option to add on since I missed it when it first came out.

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments I always have a handful that I've read every year that are up for BOTY but most of them I've typically not read, and it's no different this year. I'd like to vote based on something that I don't have yet but it feels weird because if it feels like I'm gaming the system or something. It seemed to be something that a lot of people do, so I just wanted to see what everyone here thought. At the same time, on the years where I've only read maybe one or two, I also feel bad voting because I don't feel like I've really read enough of the pool in order to vote. It's not really that serious so I'm not super worried, just wanted to see what everyone's opinion was.

Trisha, there was one year I had that exact same problem. I had read everything on the list except for one, and of course that one didn't even make it into the top five. So I had zero choices for books I didn't own already. Luckily when I reached out to customer service they just gave me a credit instead of having to pick one of those.

Yes, this is my 2nd year (or 3rd?) with this problem so I think this year I will reach out to customer service if I already have all of them.

I AM excited to see who will win though! It's fun to see the voting every year!

message 14: by Elsa (new)

Elsa Carrion (ecarrion) | 690 comments I haven't read any of them on this list, those that I did read didn't make it on the list, so I won't be voting this year. And I'm Ok with that I will see which one wins.

There are 3 on the list I didn't purchase, the rest I have already. So, maybe if the winning book is one that I already own, I'll try and contact customer service and see if I can get a great as well.

thanks for the heads up Jennifer.

message 15: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments what do you guys think of the finalists? I'm a huge Towles fan but The Lincoln Highway plot doesn't call to me at all. I'm eyeing Tomorrow X3 I think for my BFF pick but I'm not 100% sure

message 16: by Madeline (new)

The Lincoln Highway was REALLY good. I would also say that the plot didn't necessarily call to me either but the character building is great. I would definitely recommend you give it a try especially if you're a fan of Towles. I've read his other books and I would say Lincoln is my favorite.

message 17: by Trisha (last edited Oct 20, 2022 11:14AM) (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I have to say I'm really surprised by the winners this time!
I had all of them (between the 2 accounts) except the romance once - The Love Hypothesis

but I was surprised by how much feedback I see in the BOTM groups I'm in that had either not yet read the selections - or really disliked them (Flicker)
I've read 3 of those selections and I really liked them but I'm not sure I liked them enough to be the winners of the whole year.

I look forward to read the last 2 - The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood & The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles

message 18: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments Winner has been announced!!

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Has won BOTY for 2022!

What will everyone be picking next month in their boxes?

message 19: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I'm so glad that one won! it was really good!

I think I'll be ordering The Love Hypothesis

What are you planning?

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hutchinson | 86 comments I think I'm going to end up with
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
I don't have that one yet and I've been looking at it for a while and just not added it to a box. Once I saw that it was part of the BOTY I waited to see what would win before I added any of them to my boxes.

Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
Also looks good though

message 21: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I think we'll be getting the first round of voting in the next week or two!

Our selections should be any/all main picks for the year (plus I think Dec of last year).

Anyone have any BOTY hopefuls?

message 22: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyaf) | 26 comments Weyward is my favorite of the year so far!

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy Harrington | 16 comments Lady Tan’s Circle of Women and River Sing Me Home.

message 24: by Elsa (last edited Sep 07, 2023 08:23AM) (new)

Elsa Carrion (ecarrion) | 690 comments There are only a hand full of this years books I've read, so I really can't say of all the ones offered through the entire year was the best, but who can, name me one person that has read every single book that BOTM has sold/offered in 2023, that would be the one person who should have a say in which book was best. But from the ones I have read I can say one comes to mind and that would be The House Is on Fire by Rachel Beanland it probably won't even make the list but I found it interesting.

I've heard a lot of noise for Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid , I've read it and it was good but don't understand all the whoop rah over it. This one will probably be on the list and probably make it to the finals.

Maybe when I'm in a reading funk I will sit down and take a look at those I've read in the last 8 months and see if I stand by my original pick.

message 25: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I loved the House is on fire too!

actually, TODAY they sent out a message that we won't be voting on BOTY until January!! And then pick the book, I think, in March (for BFF's).

I'm seeing a lot of people on-line upset that that means we won't get a free book perk for 2023 (one of our 2 free books perks). We'll see if BOTM address that!

message 26: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I think Daisy Jones & The Six is too old for this year's BOTY

message 27: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 41 comments I’m a bit disappointed because I only joined last year in January so I never got the free book credit like everyone did for 2022. I was looking forward to having it.

However, I do understand why they changed it so all the books in 2023 can be counted because last year, there was quite a few books from the latter half of 2021 that was nominated in 2022. I think all of the books of 2023 should have a fair chance but I do hope some of the latter ones in 2022 can be nominated due to the sudden change.

message 28: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I agree, I'm disappointed about the credit and still waiting to see what they say

but YES! it was really tough to try to remember what rolled over and what didn't. It was hard to keep all the cut-off straight!

message 29: by Trisha (new)

What is your vote? Who do you think will win?

message 30: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyaf) | 26 comments I read three of these: Weyward, The Wishing Game, and Lady Tan's Circle of Women. Of these 3, I voted for:

Weyward by Emilia Hart Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See .

I also voted for The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi because even though I haven't read it yet, I feel like I'm going to love it when I do. It's one that I'm really excited to read and I'd love BOTM to feature more books like it.

I agree that either Weyward or Shark Heart will win. Weyward was my favorite BOTM of the year but I've heard that Shark Heart is amazing too.

message 31: by Trisha (last edited Jan 10, 2024 10:59AM) (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments oooh! I love that you both agree on Weyward by Emilia Hart Shark Heart by Emily Habeck

I really liked Weyward and I loved Shark Heart. I think I would have voted for Shark Heart if it had ended at the halfway mark! That first part was SO powerful and heartbreaking!

YES! I am also really excited to readThe Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi!! I hate that its still on my shelf unread!! I will definitely get to it in the next few months!

I've read 10 from the selections. I voted for:
The Collected Regrets of Clover - my favorite BOTM for the year
then: The Wishing Game&Happiness Falls

I'm excited to see who wins!

message 32: by Amy (new)

Amy Harrington | 16 comments I’ve read 14. My top 3 were Lady Tan, Wellness and Mama Love.

message 33: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I have Lady Tan's Circle of Women & The Many Lives of Mama Love: A Memoir of Lying, Stealing, Writing, and Healing. I've heard such good things about both! Really excited to finally grab them off my shelf and read them!!

I haven't heard much about Wellness, that would be interesting if that won!

message 34: by Amy (new)

Amy Harrington | 16 comments I would be shocked if Wellness won. It doesn’t seem to be as popular as most other contenders, but I’m not surprised by that - it’s a long, cerebral and layered book that I didn’t fully appreciate until I finished it. I’m actually impressed it made the top 20.

message 35: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 41 comments I haven’t read any of the BOTM books on the list which is embarrassing. However, my sister has read Adelaide and she loved it so I voted for that one! I also voted for Happiness Falls as I heard it was really good but I already grabbed it and one that I would love to get and I heard was good which is Weyward! I agree with everyone, I think Weyward has a good chance of winning!

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 10 comments Ilsen wrote: "I haven’t read any of the BOTM books on the list which is embarrassing. However, my sister has read Adelaide and she loved it so I voted for that one! I also voted for Happiness Falls as I heard it..."
Definitely don’t feel embarrassed because my choices from the year don’t line up with these as well! I read The Last Love Note by Emma Grey and The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer and am currently reading Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See . I’ve heard of the others and have Love Theoretically on my tbr shelf but haven’t read most of these. I wouldn’t be surprised if Weyward by Emilia Hart won it has been everywhere.

message 37: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments hopefully we'll hear about the BOTY soon, now that books have dropped! Maybe another week or two!!

message 38: by Trisha (last edited Feb 14, 2024 01:26PM) (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments Top 5 for BOTY have been announced!

BOTM here:

None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell Shark Heart by Emily Habeck Weyward by Emilia Hart The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer Yours Truly (Part of Your World, #2) by Abby Jimenez

which one will you pick?
Which one do you think they'll announce as the winner?

message 39: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments I've read all but one, Yours Truly - which I already have

I think Weyward will win but we'll see! So excited to see these good ones get in the final round! I liked all of them that I read!

I'm not sure which one I'll choose, since I already have/read them all. I think maybe Weyward - because I had it as an ARC ebook and didn't have a physical copy

message 40: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 10 comments I'll definitely be choosing Weyward as the others I've read.

message 41: by Julia (new)

Julia Sierra | 13 comments I don't have any of them, nor have I read them. But I'm excited for "The Wishing Game."

message 42: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 41 comments I don’t have any of the finalists! But I’m definitely getting Weyward as I have regretted not getting it in the past! I’m excited!

message 43: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 41 comments Me too! I was really thinking either Weyward or Shark Heart was gonna win. But congrats to the author! I do want to read it but I’m still going to get Weyward for my pick.

message 44: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyaf) | 26 comments I was rooting for Weyward to win but Yours Truly sounds really good!

I'll become a BFF once I ship my March box, so I don't think I'm going to get the free book (I think I read that you need to be a BFF before March). Yours Truly is currently available on Kindle Unlimited, though, so I grabbed it from there and am looking forward to reading it!

message 45: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments YES! I'm shocked too!! I really thought Weyward would take the win!
Nice to see a romance win this one!

message 46: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 405 comments I'm not shocked, but the only two of the nominees I read were Shark Heart and Yours Truly. I ended up giving Shark Heart 4 stars and Yours Truly 5, so if I'd read more of them and voted, I would've voted for Yours Truly. Then again, that's just between the two of the books.

message 47: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 10 comments I was honestly really surprised that it won, I really thought it was going to be Weyward

message 48: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 405 comments Well, I haven't read Weyward, but historical fiction is one of my favorite genres if not my favorite. So had I read it, I'd probably agree. I do plan to read it when the Choice Awards Group reads it.

message 49: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 405 comments Trisha, when does the voting come out for the books we purchased this year? Who gets to vote and where will we see it: on the app or on a PC or both?

message 50: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 1690 comments So, I believe we'll vote in January and then be able to add a BOTY book to our February box! but it might also be March box - we'll have to see!
