Our Feb. 2023 Book of the Month is The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave. We'll open discussion on Feb. 15.

Synopsis:
A mystery about a woman searching for the truth around her husband’s disappearance…at any cost.

Before Owen Michaels disappears, he manages to smuggle a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers: Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.

As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered; as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss; as a US Marshal and FBI agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. And that Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared.

Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth, together. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they are also building a new future. One neither Hannah nor Bailey could have anticipated.

I really enjoyed this story, especially Hannah. Can’t wait to see the TV series. Loved that epilogue.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3005 comments I finished. I read this book last year. The audio was available at the library so this was a listen. I enjoyed the book. The audio does a good job translating the emotions.

I love how Hannah doesn't give up on Bailey.

I agree Susan. It is a nail-biter.

I'm anxious to see how they write the TV series.

Susan (cruelshoes) | 567 comments Hannah was determined not to loose Bailey but to be there for her against all odds. I hated the ending after years of not knowing what happened to Michael and he just shows up our of the blue at her show and talks to her but then leaves he should have just kept away. That false hope that they may get together or is that the author saying yes they may still get together?? She lost her husband but gained a daughter. I wanted her to have both
