The recent discussion in the thread about The Rise and Reign of the Mammals: A New History, from the Shadow of the Dinosaurs to Us illustrates why we insist that books nominated for the group read be widely available. See my response: /topic/show/...

Also, I'd like to remind people not to give up too easily. If you're looking for a book at your local library or book store, don't just give up when you can't find it. Ask the sales people or librarian. Bookstores will often be able to special order a book for you and libraries can usually find it through an interlibrary loan. These people want to serve you and most will go to great lengths to get what you need. And it doesn't take as long as you might think.

Also, you asking can help others who might be looking for the same book. The more people who ask, the more likely it is that the bookstore or library can justify ordering the book.

Siby | 1 comments Hi All - I was looking for a book recommendation. I read very briefly about what an amazing scientist/inventor Edmond Halley was. I was wondering if there is a good book that someone can recommend about his life and achievements? My research indicates Edmond Halley: Charting the Heavens and the Seas is a good one. Just wanted to confirm, since there are very few reviews for the book.
