A book with a song lyric as its title.

If this sounds familiar, yes we've had a similar category before, in 2018 and again in 2021. I guess Popsugar likes it. (And this isn't the only repeat.) Yes I'm grumpy about the repeats.

We weren't creating Listopias in 2018 for the challenge. Here's our 2021 list, for song TITLE: /list/show/1...

And what the hell, let's create a new 2023 list, too, for song LYRIC:
/list/show/1...

Rosie | 19 comments I really wanted to read She Loves You in 2022 but now im so happy this is perfect for this prompt.

Thanks for the list. Station Eleven sounds like a good one. I had planned on doing a reread of it come December but I suppose I can hold off, either that or read it again for a fourth time.

I'll keep looking for others though, specifically in the nonfiction category.

Gigi | 9 comments There's Not My Problem: "call it what you want, but you're not my problem", Dua Lipa.

Motherthing: "I fell back, I had a baby, you know, I did the mother thing", Nicki Minaj

Normal People: "we can pretend we're normal people, and I can repeat those times", Joji

Meagan (mmbell) | 9 comments I might use Cool for the Summer for this one!

Rachel | 13 comments Heart-Shaped Box for the horror fans.

message 8: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 1771 comments I actually think this might be a pretty good "cheat" category for me. Find a book with a 1 or 2 word title, pretty good chance you can find it in a song lyric somewhere. :)

message 9: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 13 comments There There would be another good option.

Personally I'm thinking about just cheating and going with Useless Magic: Lyrics and Poetry since it's been on my TBR for awhile and 'Lyrics' are (part of) the title...

I think last time we had this prompt I just googled the title of every book I wanted to read along with "song lyrics" till I found one.

message 11: by Sandra (new)

The fun for me is having novel prompts.

Jenna (jennawebbles) | 22 comments I think this is a fun prompt!

Carry On
Never Ever Getting Back Together

message 15: by chysodema (last edited Dec 01, 2022 05:00PM) (new)

chysodema | 50 comments I think I'm going to try to pick a book whose title is a deliberate reference to a song lyric, rather than coincidentally also a song lyric.

Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science that Will Transform Your Sex Life
Wayward Son
Kiss Her Once for Me
Never Ever Getting Back Together
You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty
Somewhere Only We Know

message 16: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneymouse) | 55 comments Friday I'm in Love (The Cure)
I Believe in a Thing Called Love (The Darkness)
The Way You Make Me Feel (Michael Jackson)
Somewhere Only We Know (Coldplay)
As You Walk on By ("Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds)

message 17: by Dixie (new)

Dixie (dixietenny) For those of us of a certain age who adored David Cassidy, I recommend I Think I Love You. Sweet and very satisfying.

Chrissy | 387 comments Last time I had Animals Strike Curious Poses on my list but went another way. Maybe this year.

Oh, thank you for this list! I have Breakfast at Tiffany's and Three Stories on order at the library and it should turn up early next year.

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 230 comments So I randomly started googling song lyrics with books in my TBR stack and hit on a few choices!

Fairy Tale by Stephen King, found a song called Fairytale on YouTube by Alexander Rybak.

Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez, found a gospel song by Elvis Presley.

Shutter by Ramona Emerson, found a Japanese artist named Yuri, has a song title Shutter.

Nyla | 33 comments I plan on Thunderstruck = Song by AC/DC & book by Erik Larson

message 22: by LeahS (new)

LeahS | 473 comments Having struggled a bit with Beloved, I am going to try Toni Morrison again with God Help the Child.

message 23: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2643 comments Would it be okay if we stretched it to song titles too or does it have to be lyrics only?

message 24: by Bea (new)

Bea | 602 comments Gee, but y'all are helpful! I found a book and googled lyric with the word...and got one! Thanks.

message 25: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2643 comments This one was easier than I thought:

The Highwayman

It's a poem in which Celtic artist Loreena McKennitt added music to. It's simple but it's good. First read the poem and heard the song in 7th grade and it's one of my favorites.

message 26: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie | 1027 comments I added a bunch of musician memoirs to the Listopia - so many artists use song lyrics as their memoir titles!

message 27: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 263 comments I would like to recommend Mary Jane for this prompt- though it also fits book with character name in the title. My mom and I both loved this one.

right? that's my annoyance here. What ISN'T a song lyric, somewhere????

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments Ashley Marie wrote: "I added a bunch of musician memoirs to the Listopia - so many artists use song lyrics as their memoir titles!"

Awesome. Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen is the first one that comes to mind.

message 30: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahbastien1) | 113 comments I've just been searching lyrics in the search bar as I think of them. I like the Kiss Her Once for Me and Never Let Me Go suggestions, and here are some others:

Take My Whole Life Too
Just Haven't Met You Yet (I thought this one looked cute but there are also four others with the same title, lol)

I'll keep updating as I think of more lyrics to search!

message 31: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Wilks | 9 comments If you like thrillers, try Dark Horse by Greg Hurwitz. For fantasy, Half the World by Joe Abercrombie.

message 34: by Rajalakshmi (new)

Rajalakshmi C (rajjansy) | 1 comments Does any of Mary Higgins Clark novels fit this prompt?

Yes a lot of her books (maybe even ALL of her books) would work here

I added a bunch of hers to the listopia.

message 38: by Tania (new)

Tania | 678 comments I plan to read Eyes of a Child, song Through the Eyes of a Child by Aurora.

Others on my shelf:
Through My Eyes, song Look Through My Eyes by Phil Collins
The Wings of the Morning, song The Wings of teh Morning (hymn)

Books I recommend:
I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, song Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson
Visions of Sugar Plums, song Vision of Sugar Plums by Glen Campbell

message 40: by Joshua (new)

Joshua (hitthefunkybeats) | 126 comments I think I will try a romance this year with You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty because it's from one of my favorite Florence + The Machine songs. I would love to find one that uses a lyric from Bejeweled or Mastermind by Taylor Swift, though. Or maybe Would've Could've Should've.

message 41: by Amber (new)

Amber | 5 comments Might be cheating but I am going to go with Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story.

message 42: by ³¢Ã²¹ (new)

³¢Ã²¹ Honorato (pinguinolector) | 2 comments I have a question, if I only read in Spanish, does a book whose title in English is the lyrics of a song but not in Spanish count?

This is a good idea! I think I'm going to try and do this too.

message 47: by Rachael (new)

Rachael | 136 comments I Kissed a Girl by Jennet Alexander is on my TBR, and it's a Katy Perry lyric

message 48: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments Ryan North's Squirrel Girl series frequently does this for the volume subtitles, just substituting "squirrel" where "girl" would go. For example, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Vol. 3: Squirrel, You Really Got Me Now is close enough to the Kinks/Van Halen song lyric to count in my view.

message 49: by Jamie (last edited Dec 14, 2022 09:08AM) (new)

Jamie | 117 comments I'm already planning to read Round the Bend by Nevil Shute for my around the world challenge, and "Round the Bend" is also a Beck song so I'll probably double dip and use it for this prompt too. It's not really my usual type of book, but it was the only book I could find that was set in Bahrain so ...

message 50: by John (new)

John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) I'll probably read The Change by Kirstin Miller. It is used as a title for songs by Garth Brooks and Evanescence. This book could also be used as a celebrity book club (GMA).
