You've got nice variety in your list. Cousin Rachel and Anne of Green Gables are both excellent. I need to get back to Cormoran Strike and I think I need to try Fairytale. My wife and I enjoyed Magpie Murders on PBS so much. I think I'll try the novel too, but I may need to wait a bit so it's not so familar in my mind.

This list is fantastic! Two of my favorite books are on this list. Fairy Tale and Fever Dream.

With Fever Dream, I still don't know what was real.

Good luck and happy reading, Faouzia!

The stories in the Cormoran Strike series get better and I enjoyed them all a lot.

Yes! Fairy Tale is a fairy tale and is excellent. At first, it is just normal day to day with a boy and his dad, who have drama-filled history and sorrow; then it becomes something else. I actually enjoyed the first 1/3 of the novel, even though the weird stuff hadn't happened. Just great story-telling.

Faouzia | 306 comments First book of the challenge was Dead Scared (Lacey Flint, #2) by Sharon J. Bolton
4,5 Stars.

It is the second book of the Lacey Flint series, and i loved it as much as the first. So far this series is turning out to be a very good one and i am enjoying it a lot. The investigation was centred around a series of suicides among the students of Cambridge, which turned out to be a rather darker situation.
I'll probably be reading the next books of the series very soon.

message 22: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments also finished Only Human (Themis Files, #3) by Sylvain Neuvel , 3Stars

Well, i'm not very sure about it. All along i had mixed feeling. I enjoyed the whole series, but this book was my least favourite. I can't say what exactly bothered me about it, but i didn't enjoy as much as the other two.
i'm still glad i discovered this series and read this story :)

I felt the same. I enjoyed the first 2 books much more, but this one was a let down. I think I expected a different ending, bit overall a good series.

Sorry the last book didn't work for you; but like you say, the series was good.

Faouzia | 306 comments Finished Harry Potter a while ago. It took me back to when I first discovered that magical world, and it felt good to read something new about it.
I was happy reading it. I think this sums up the whole experience of reading the play.

Faouzia wrote: "And I just received my copy of Fairy Tale and I'm foreseeing a busy and agreeable weekend reading it."

First; I really miss the Harry Potter world. It was such a delight to read those.

I loved Fairy Tale before we even got to the fantasy part. The characters are complex and real. I really enjoyed this and hope you do, as well.

message 28: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments I really neglected my threads this year. There's been so much going on that I barely had time to read the books of my challenges. And as always I was side tracked by other books I came across 😅
I still managed to finish a few.

message 29: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments Crooked House by Agatha Christie 3 Stars

Reading Agatha Christie is almost always a treat. This one was no exception. There was an introduction by her in the copy I bought, and she said this book was one of her best.
Well, I did enjoy it a lot, but for me there were others that beat this one. Still, It was interesting and not what I expected.

message 30: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments Don't Believe It by Charlie Donlea 3 Stars

Charlie Donlea is one of my new favourite authors. I've been following him during the last couple years and always enjoyed his books.
But I had mixed feelings about this book. Until the last 20 pages it was a 4,5 Stars. The final twist, although unexpected and interesting, annoyed me to no end and almost spoilt the whole book for me.
One thing I totally loved about it is the fact that it barely contained crude language or scenes and the story was interesting all the same. Such books are becoming more of a rarity these last year's.

message 31: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments Fairy Tale by Stephen King 3 Stars

With Stephen King it is not a question of whether I might enjoy the story, it's more like how much I'm gonna enjoy it.
With this one I actually love the first part, without the weird stuff much better than the rest, and the ending was just perfect, I loved it more than any other part.
The actual part of the fairy tale was enjoyable but there was almost always a part of me that wasn't totally invested in it.
Not my favourite of King but still enjoyed it.

message 32: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments The Ink Black Heart (Cormoran Strike, #6) by Robert Galbraith 4 Stars.

Loved it. Can't wait for the next one.
I simply can't resist the combination of Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott even though it was a 1000+ pages.
I enjoyed the story very much and The reason it was not a 5 Stars was the very crude language used extensively in many scenes, it was just too much.

message 33: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments Magpie Murders (Susan Ryeland, #1) by Anthony Horowitz 3 Stars

I think this is the end of the road with me and Anthony Horowitz. There is something in his style that simply annoy me a lot.
The story itself was rather interesting. In fact it was more like two stories for the price of one. There was the main murder investigation of an author and the story of an investigation in his last book which was more like the style of Agatha Christie. It was the latter that I enjoyed the most.
But there were so many parallels between the stories that it felt like repetition and having just finished an actual book of Christie, what I was reading felt just like a pale imitation.
That doesn't sound fair of me. It just that the book annoyed me.

It's funny how I van write a long review of a book I didn't really love and do quite the opposite for my favourite stories 😅

message 34: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier 3 Stars

This is the case of the book not being the best I've read of the author. I usually enjoy stories by De Maurier.
This one was fascinating in a way and I could've given it a higher rating except that I hated and despised the main character Philip Ashley. I just wanted to shake him and tell him to just make up his mind and be done with it!! He is the most infuriating character I came across in these couple of years.
Cousin Rachel is certainly a manipulative person and till the end one can't be a 100% sure how evil and twisted she really was, which made the story rather interesting.

message 35: by Faouzia (new)

Faouzia | 306 comments Upgrade by Blake Crouch 4 Stars

Sci-fi is not one of my favourite genre but this doesn't apply to Blake Crouch appearently, I just love most of his book. When I finished this one, it dawned on me how many way he found for his books for the extension of the human race. The scary thing that many of them didn't really sound as far fetched as sci-fi usually is.
Anyway I actually enjoyed this one a lot, there was something in it that made Logan Ramsey endearing.

Faouzia | 306 comments Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery 5 Stars

This book was definitely the winner of this challenge. There wasn't a part in it that I didn't love. Little Anne was a most lovable character and the others from Avonlea were just wonderful. I found that I was constantly chuckling to myself while reading it sometimes bursting into laughter which was not very convenient while reading in public transport.
I thought I didn't know the story but it turned out that I watched as a cartoon when I was little, it felt like finding a childhood friend.
I actually enjoyed so much that I bought the others books of the series and binge-read the following 3 books in the couple of weeks.
I missed this feeling that comes from loving a book unconditionally like this.

message 37: by Lea (new)

Lea (leaspot) | 3458 comments I'm so glad you enjoyed Anne of Green Gables, Faouzia! It's one of my absolute favorite books. I didn't think all the books in the series are equally good, but whenever I decide to re-read the series, I read them all again. It's such a cozy read for me, and helps me relax. Good luck with your binge reading, I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Great update, Faouzia!

That first part of Fairy Tale is just perfect. SK could have just wrote about a boy and his father, and it would have been fine with me. I love fantasy and dark things, so you know I loved it all. LOL

I'm working through the Anne of Green Gables series; one a year in December... I'm glad you enjoyed the 1st. I really enjoyed the BBC miniseries based on Magpie Murders. You're right, the concept is interesting. I've got the book awaiting my attention now.
