Loraine (librarydiva) | 4420 comments Have you given any thought to what your reading goals are for 2023? I have!

1) Read from the books on my shelves and on my Kindle every month.
2) Limit picks from Netgalley to 3 each month.
3) Limit my purchases and freebies from Kindle.
4) Only get books from the library that are on my TBR list (It's pages and pages long!)

What are your New Year's Reading Resolutions?

I'm terrible at sticking to these, but I'll just spit this out anyway.

My goals are...
1. read 100 owned books
2. raise my NetGalley percentage by 3 percentage points (and maintain that spot!)

Beth (canadianbeth) | 247 comments I do not make official resolutions. I figure I will just continue as I have been, with my Kindle, Kobo and Libby apps. I alternate between them, use Kindle Unlimited, download LIS books to my Kobo every month, and get either e- or print books from the library. I read the LIS books in order, but leave series ones until they are all published and then binge-read them, so I still have July books yet to read, with a few series ones from before that. Right now I am working on an e-book from the library. I try to get library books as e- ones as I can no longer access the actual building but have a volunteer bring me print books when they become available.

My goals are to finish series I've already started, read more already owned books and read a few authors that I've been meaning to get to and haven't yet. Pretty sure these are the same goals as last year and I did pretty ok with series and the authors, but not so great on focusing on owned books. Oh well...having fun reading so it's all good.

Carole Jarvis | 145 comments I have one major reading goal that's kind of unusual, and that's to re-read some beloved books.

I had to give up book reviewing when my husband's health necessitated me becoming his caretaker and I haven't read many books at all this year. Now that he's more stable, I'm finding time to read again and discovering a new enjoyment from it. In looking back over a lifetime of reading, many books stand out as absolute gems and I'd like to read many of them again, knowing that I'll get even more out of them the second time.

Carissa | 468 comments My reading goals are even though I'm terrible at sticking to them
1. Read the 79 physical books I own prior 2023
2. Get my netgalley percentage up by getting caught up on reviews
3. Stick to only buying the 12 book's I've got in my online cart for pre-orders. Unless using Holiday or birthday money.
4. Read at least 2 owned books from Kindle each month. I'm not picking a number of kindle books to read in the year. I've got to many on there. Thanks to the kindle freebies.
5. Make a dent in my unfinished series
6. Read three classics.
7. Make it through the Old Testament.

message 7: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 865 comments The only resolution I have is to try to pick and read books I added to my tbr list in 2016 more often. I have 460 books on my tbr list that were added in 2016. I think I will also go through this list and remove books I may no longer be interested in reading. I will see how many are still on the list at the end of the year! That was the year I joined goodreads, so they are the books that have been on my tbr the longest.

message 8: by Megan (new)

Megan | 172 comments I really want to finish some series that I started. I'd also love to limit purchasing books to ones I really want. Those kindle freebies and sales are so tempting though!

message 9: by Lauri (new)

Lauri Gentry | 419 comments Not really a "resolution" but for my goals I will borrow a line from a movie (altered a bit) "Just keep reading, just keep reading".
Goals? maybe I will
1. Read at least one book from the Author of the Month
2. Read more than I purchase.
3. Complete as many reading challenges as possible.

message 10: by Sarita (new)

Sarita | 2251 comments Main goals:
1. Buy less - rather read books I have for years
2. Finish series busy with
3. Request less review books (difficult but to allow time to focus on owned books).
4. Do not plan too much - leave space for flexibility and to just have fun reading.

Try to be relaxed in my reading goals, enjoy the books that I hope to read from my personal bookshelf and the library and give my spending account an overdue rest in the book department from down here in NZ.

message 12: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 676 comments My reading goal this year is to try and meet all of the challenges. There are so many books I want to read, the challenges will help me narrow down what to read. I'd definitely like to focus on reading a few series, as well as fully reading a few authors. I've not fully read any author as of now, so that's a big goal. Francine Rivers is my first author I want to fully read.

message 13: by AlegnaB (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) | 982 comments My main goal is to read more books than I read the last 2 1/2 years. I want to read a lot of nonfiction, including books by reformers, Charles Spurgeon, and other notable Christians of the past. I want to read some fiction classics. I'd like to complete all of the challenges I've joined.

message 14: by Charlene (new)

Charlene | 576 comments Happy new year everyone!

My overall reading goal this year is to read with intention to enjoy what I read a little more. I will achieve this by:

1. Paying attention to the detail in the books I read like year, country, writing style ect - Joining some of the challenges will help with this
2. Reading books recommended and the authors I enjoy
3. Start writing reviews again
4. Update my challenges more often
5. Increase my reading to 6 books a month instead of 5 so I should end the year by reading 72 books :)

message 15: by Bonny (new)

Bonny (bonnybonnybeth) | 644 comments I am ready to make some new reading goals for 2023!
1) Read through the Bible from Genesis-Deuteronomy along with Biblical Fiction to match.
2) Set up more bookshelves so I don't have piles of books on the floor anymore.
3) Don't aim to complete the maximum level for my challenges this year, but instead just see what I happen to get.
4) Take a break from the 50 States challenge to give myself more breathing room.
5) Continue reading aloud to my daughter every night! <3

Love #5 Bonny since I am a retired elementary reading teacher. I'm reading chapter books with my 10 year old grandson. We get together once a week and talk about the chapters we've read either in person or on the phone.

message 17: by Linda (new)

Linda | 16 comments I really enjoyed the Grow 4 Life 2022 Challenge. I read through the entire Bible, but failed the other challenges and my other goals. My resolutions this year are to set more realistic goals, read a non-fiction each month, listen to an audio each month and to finish some series I wanted to finish last year.

message 18: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 428 comments 1. Finish Aloha Reef series
2. finish main reading challenbge
3. Read at least two, new Christian fiauthors

message 19: by Sarita (new)

Sarita | 2251 comments Update:

Main goals:
1. Buy less - rather read books I have for years - Yes, though there were some months I failed, I did manage to buy less than the previous years.
2. Finish series busy with - Yes, some, but others not so much.
3. Request less review books (difficult but to allow time to focus on owned books). - Yes, some, but can still approve in the next year.
4. Do not plan too much - leave space for flexibility and to just have fun reading. - No, I joined a lot of challenges and with the move lost a lot of reading time which threw my year plans out of control.

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4420 comments Reading Goals for 2023
1. Read each month 4 from my TBR list, 4 from Kindle, and 4 from shelves.
*I held to this fairly well but didn't make the 4 from the shelves every month.
2. Each month finish 2 series missing only 1 book.
* I did much better than I thought finishing 31 series!!
3 Use only books from my TBR list, Kindle and shelves: library if needed to complete challenges.
*This was a hit or miss.

The 2024 Reading Resolutions thread is called 2024 Reading Plans and is found in the Looking Back & Looking Aheadfolder.

message 25: by Bonny (new)

Bonny (bonnybonnybeth) | 644 comments Here's how I did on my 2023 reading resolutions:
1) Read through the Bible from Genesis-Deuteronomy along with Biblical Fiction to match. (DID NOT EVEN START)
2) Set up more bookshelves so I don't have piles of books on the floor anymore. (SET UP ONE NEW BOOKSHELF AND MOVED MOST OF THE PILES ONTO IT)
3) Don't aim to complete the maximum level for my challenges this year, but instead just see what I happen to get. (ACCOMPLISHED)
4) Take a break from the 50 States challenge to give myself more breathing room. (ACCOMPLISHED, AND WILL DO AGAIN THIS YEAR)
5) Continue reading aloud to my daughter every night! <3 (GRADUALLY TRANSITIONED TO HER READING TO ME INSTEAD, BUT WANT TO INCREASE MY READING TO HER MORE)

Altogether, a fairly decent accomplishment of my goals!
