message 13: by Shella (new)

Shella | 261 comments I am adding a few comments and would love for others to do the same- I enjoy reading why you selected your titles. It helps me add to my TBR pile as well as recommend books to my students.
I Must Betray You- I was captivated by the POV and learned so much and wanted to research more- exactly what excellent historical fiction does. I liked how the author did not try to sugarcoat the story. I also appreciated how she pointed out how Western countries partnered with the country's dictator. Definitely for the older range.
Marshmallow Clouds Two Poets at Play Among Figurative Language- Title says it all. It's time for a poetry book to get a little Newbery love.
My Life Begins!- The theme was so strong and the journey from only child to older sibling of triplets was perfection. I loved seeing a strong title for the younger age range.
The School for Whatnots- The theme was really strong and has a unique plot.
Wayward Creatures- I like the alternating POV and the dynamic change in the characters.
In Honor of Broken Things- This book has relevant and authentic diversity. The theme and plot were strong.
The Race of the Century: The Battle to Break the Four Minute Mile. I am always rooting for nonfiction to get Newbery attention. This year I was captivated by this book- felt I was reading a story. Even though I knew how this played out, I was on the edge reading the book. This is a strong nonfiction book that has so much potential for use in the classroom. I also want to read more about this topic.
