Steph (angel4492) | 32583 comments Happy New Year, y'all!

I'm reading slowly, but diving into favorites to kick off this year -
Dire Threat (The Austin Wolves #1) by C.P. Rider Archangel's Resurrection (Guild Hunter, #15) by Nalini Singh Sweep of the Heart (Innkeeper Chronicles, #5) by Ilona Andrews Million Dollar Demon (The Hollows, #15) by Kim Harrison

Lis | 4034 comments Finished Mile High with a Vampire (Argeneau, #33) by Lynsay Sands and Immortal Rising (Argeneau, #34) by Lynsay Sands

I have to wait a couple days for After the Bite (Argeneau, #35) by Lynsay Sands so I’m listening to ‎A Vampire's Kiss (Dark Protectors/Rebels, #15.5) by Rebecca Zanetti and Sweep of the Heart (Innkeeper Chronicles, #5) by Ilona Andrews

message 7: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25884 comments So far this year I've read:

Sweep of the Blade (Innkeeper Chronicles, #4) by Ilona Andrews bought the paperback for myself for Christmas :)
Sweetwater and the Witch (Ghost Hunters #15) by Jayne Castle A SOS Secret Santa pressie
Star-Crossed Witch (Miss Matched Midlife Dating Agency, #1) by Deanna Chase
The King's Captive (Gate of Myth and Power, #1) by K.M. Shea & The King's Shadow (Gates of Myth and Power, #2) by K.M. Shea eagerly awaiting #3 The King's Queen (Gate of Myth and Power #3) by K.M. Shea in March
So I'm now reading Magic Forged (Hall of Blood and Mercy, #1) by K.M. Shea which is set in the same world as above, which I probably should've read first. Oh well, that means quite a few books to read while waiting for March.

And of course Magic Tides (Kate Daniels Wilmington Years, #1; Kate Daniels, #10.5) by Ilona Andrews which comes out for me tomorrow :)

message 8: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Adams (rachadams) | 3 comments I'm on a roll this year! I've already read - Fabled Passages Speculative Stories by Margaret Pinard

I've read a short story from S.A. Crow

I just started our writer's group read of the month (On the Wings for Writers) - Bratva Darling (The Ivankov Brotherhood, #1) by Sabine Barclay

This totally looks like a guilty pleasure kind of book...lol.

message 9: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4034 comments I’m officially caught up all things Argeneau finished listening to After the Bite (Argeneau, #35) by Lynsay Sands

Actually read read my first book of the year Magic Tides (Kate Daniels Wilmington Years, #1; Kate Daniels, #10.5) by Ilona Andrews and ~FAN GIRLING ~ member of the BDH Such a surprise I could not wait for the audio. It’s kind of a teaser & hope its a possible spinoff (fingers crossed). It was over way too quickly, but was such an awesome treat visiting the Kate & Curran universe .

Also discovered that iTunes remembered my first audio purchases over a decade ago, toss those downloaded CDs. So I can re-listen Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter
@Steph mentioned the perspective of meeting the characters with the knowledge of who or what they became, so I’m gonna join the challenge.

message 10: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I've been listening to some Nancy Drew: The Secret of Red Gate Farm (Nancy Drew #6) by Carolyn Keene The Secret of Red Gate Farm

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 376 comments So, I've read a few more holiday novellas;

Spiked Hot Chocolate by Rilzy Adams really enjoyed
Trapper's Christmas by Dahlia Rose enjoyed
Claiming Mrs. Claus A Christmas Novella by R.M. Virtues not my thing - porn as plot. Liked the writing though, so I will read more from this author.
Auld Lang Syne (Highlands Holiday #1) by Rebel Carter let down by silly instalove and execution.

Also,

The Sinclair Witch by N.K. Vir more of a quiet, atmospheric small town UF with just a smidgen of romance. Really needs sequels to flesh out the world and learn about some of the side characters.

Echoes of Rebellion (A Court of Echoes, #2) by S. McPherson sequel to one I really enjoyed mid last year, but I'd left it far too long to recall some of the details so got in the way a bit. Also, I was expecting an end to this story (not sure why though?) so the end came out of left field. Still, it was very entertaining for the most part, with a great cast of characters, and I will read the next one - whenever that may be.

It's an historical (our world bits were set in 1930s Spain) portal fantasy, where the Bermuda Triangle is the doorway from our world into the fantasy world.

message 12: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4034 comments Really enjoying my re-read (listen) of all things Jane. I officially re-listened
Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter AND Blood Cross (Jane Yellowrock, #2) by Faith Hunter

I may have read a little farther, but I cannot admit it here just yet due to an active challenge. We are patiently reading one book a month from the Jane Yellowrock series. But... (view spoiler)

I forced myself to read a couple of non-SOS type books. And ended this week with Encore in Death (In Death, #56) by J.D. Robb , not my favorite Dallas book, just never enough Roarke time. Always nice to spend time in futuristic NYC.

Now I'm going to start Christine Feehan's Torpedo Ink series, and read Judgment Road (Torpedo Ink #1) by Christine Feehan Hoping it makes sense without having to read her Drake Sisters & Sisters of The Heart series first.

That's the sign of a good series, Lis, binge reading.

I'm guilty of the same with K.M. Shea's Magiford Supernatural City Series, which is, so far, trilogies of different supes, all living in Magiford, ruled by the Supernatural Council. Just can't get enough of it; waiting on the next book to be published in March.
Magic Forged (Hall of Blood and Mercy, #1) by K.M. Shea (Hall of Blood & Mercy) Crown of Shadows (Court of Midnight and Deception #1) by K.M. Shea (Court of Midnight & Deception) Hunted (Pack of Dawn and Destiny, #1) by K.M. Shea (Pack of Dawn & Destiny) & the latest one The King's Captive (Gate of Myth and Power, #1) by K.M. Shea (Gate of Myth & Power)

Steph (angel4492) | 32583 comments Oooh, I'm glad to hear you're liking those so much, Sandra. I'll have to return to her series soon. I wanna start at the beginning this time since on my first read of hers I inadvertently jumped into the third "set".

Remembered you liked em, so as I'm looking for good KU books, I jumped in .... and loved them.

Lis | 4034 comments Soooo... the first book in Christine Feehan Torpedo Ink series felt like I had missing parts since it was a spin off of the Sea Haven Sisters of the Heart series.
Sooo I read Spirit Bound (Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart, #2) by Christine Feehan the 2nd book in her series since I had read #1 Water Bound before.... AND that felt like I was missing parts too since it was a spinoff of her first series in Sea Haven...
So... now I'm reading / listening to the Drake Sisters series starting with Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, #1) by Christine Feehan and currently reading / listening to The Twilight Before Christmas (Drake Sisters, #2) by Christine Feehan . Able to find most of the audios on Libby (free library) or Scribd. 5 down, 16 books to go.

message 26: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32583 comments I'm struggling. Used to having books be a welcome escape from RL, but, lately, it seems RL is overpowering most books' pull. 😔

I've managed to complete a few good reads lately:
Trouble with the Cursed (The Hollows, #16) by Kim Harrison Magic and the Shinigami Detective (The Case Files of Henri Davenforth, #1) by Honor Raconteur Brute of All Evil (Ordinary Magic, #9) by Devon Monk Wraith's Revenge (Lizzie Grace, #10) by Keri Arthur

I've just started Armstrong's Cursed Luck (Cursed Luck, #1) by Kelley Armstrong and am enjoying it.

Sandra | 25884 comments I love the Shinigami Detective series, its an auto buy for me :D

message 28: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4034 comments I have back tracked on a few series before moving onto the spinoffs. I finished listening to CF's Drake Sisters series with
Oceans of Fire (Drake Sisters, #3) by Christine Feehan Safe Harbor (Drake Sisters, #5) by Christine Feehan Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, #6) by Christine Feehan and Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, #7) by Christine Feehan waiting on Dangerous Tides (Drake Sisters, #4) by Christine Feehan to come available.
Then moved onto CF's Sisters of the Heart with
Air Bound (Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart, #3) by Christine Feehan and back to #1 re-read of Water Bound (Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart, #1) by Christine Feehan
Then I have become all nostalgic again by starting Patricia Brigg's shorts
Shifting Shadows (Mercy Thompson #0.1, #0.5, #0.7, #0.9, #1.2, #1.8, #4.5, #5.5, #7.4, #8.5) by Patricia Briggs which lead to a re-read of Alpha & Omega (Alpha & Omega, #0.5) by Patricia Briggs Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs and currently reading Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs
Thank you library. I'm blaming the desire to revisit favs to the Jane Yellowrock series re-read.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9651 comments Lis, Sometimes there is nothing more enjoyable than rereading a good series. I’m afraid I’m terribly behind on Feehan’s work (only started Ghostwalker series or Dark series) and never got to the other series.

Lis | 4034 comments Steph wrote: "I was thinking about A&O just recently, missing that one."

Listening to the short 0.5 intro and then the first full book and getting all the feels again! I think that enough time has passed that while the story is familiar, the details and re-listening from their perspectives and the emotions of the characters as they met and getting to know each was nice to revisit.

I agree! CFs Shadow Riders series is one of the better ones similar to Ghostwalker but with inherited powers vs the mad scientist petri dish kind. I like her writing... but I find her books starts to fall into a pattern of chapter, steamy scene, repeat. I also need to catch up on Ghostwalker too but I have abandoned her Carpathian / Dark and Leopard series. Happy Reading!

I never need an excuse to re-read fav books :D

Lately I've been re-reading RJ Blain & Susan Copperfield - same author. Love her books.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9651 comments I think people are reading less books this year because I’m supposedly in the top 25%.and I’m half my usual book count this year from previous ones.

message 35: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32583 comments 🤔 I got the same email and thought the same thing. I’ve read a bit more this year than the last, I think, but have read a LOT more in years past.

Sandra | 25884 comments I agree, say 4 or 5 yrs ago I was reading 350 - 400 books a year, now its about half that.
