The 12 Tasks are:

1. Read a book written by an author from a country around the Pacific Rim (excluding the United States). The Enchanted Wanderer by Nikolai Leskov written in Russia, 1/31

2. Read a book published by a small press, a university press, or an independent press. The Crime of Father Amaro by Eça de Queirós completed 1/24. The edition I read was published by New Directions Publishing which was founded as an independent publisher in 1934.

3. Read a book that is not a novel. The Gaucho Martín Fierro; José Hernández; 2/11. This is an Epic poem.

4. Read a book dealing with mental illness.

5. Read a debut novel. Marius the Epicurean by Walter Pater; 2/28. This is not his first book but it is his first novel.

6. Read a book in honor of Queen Elizabeth II (1926 -- 2022). Be creative � it could be written by an author named Elizabeth, a book with a character named Elizabeth, a book featuring a royal or an Elizabethan character, etc. Daniel Deronda; George Eliot; 2/28. The author shares a name with the queen. The author's given name is MARY Ann Evans, while the queen's given name is Elizabeth Alexandra MARY Windsor.

7. Read a book that can be classified as genre fiction (e.g. science fiction, mystery, romance, fantasy, horror, etc.). In a Glass Darkly; J. Sheridan Le Fanu; 2/20. This is a collection of horror stories.

8. Read a book from a country with 5 or fewer books on the Boxall list.

9. Read a book that has won a literary award or was written by an author who won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Quo Vadis; Henryk Sienkiewicz; 3/15. Mr. Sienkiewicz is the 1905 recipient of the Nobel prize in Literature.

10. Read a book that caused a scandal when it was published or has been banned. Nana by Émile Zola, the story of a burlesque actress and unapologetic prostitute, 2/8.

11. Read a book with a one word title. L'Assommoir by Émile Zola, 1/27.

12. Read a book using the theme of 23. The People of Hemso by August Strindberg, 3/5. This is the 23rd to last book from the 1800s that I have left to read.
