I liked this so much, until I really, really didn't.
This M/M romance by a new to me OwnVoices author takes place behind the scenes of the British version of Project Runway, and it did a great job capturing the essence of that show. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the few seasons I watched a billion (15?) years ago, and the Tim Gunn-inspired character was especially enjoyable.
But around the halfway point, there's a new storyline introduced that just isn't executed very well. It got a little wonky and inconsistent with the internal motivation, but once the actual competition started up, I got so invested in the design challenges and how they played out, it was really impressive. That should be a hard thing to capture without visuals, but the author made it look easy. Unfortunately, everything got so OTT ridiculous in the last 25%, it was a struggle to finish.
A pleasant surprise that turned into a massive disappointment.
