Review
This is another book which has left my pile after a lot ot time. When I saw the theme, I scanned the pile and this book appeared. Even if I read the series a long of time ago, the book stadnd on its own and I have really enjoyed it even after a slow start. It was a fun read, not very deep but interesting (although I think you'll enjoy it more if you've read the previous books). Now I'll go for the next books in the series.

It's been a blast! Thanks for the reads and for being captain, Marisa!
I'm still going through a few books, free space, bears, and magical realism. I'm hoping to get them done in the next week. I'll keep you posted!

Review:
This a short review, as I'm sooooo tired at the moment.
I really didn't know what to expect from this book, and while it felt like it was +500 pages, the story itself was good. Part Russian fairy tale but at the same time also a story of how Christianity brought fear and distrust among those that followed God and those that still honored the spirits of old.
This is only part 1 of a trilogy, and it has an open ending, but the story arc of that installment is done, so it doesn't feel like you're going to murder the author for leaving you on a cliff.
The characters were very well written. They were diverse, had plenty of depth, and we got to know them all pretty well. I especially love how the spirits were portrayed. They were so intertwined with their purpose, and they reflected that beautifully.
The book was difficult to get into. It started slow and pretty much only picked up the pace around the 75% mark. But in the end, it was worth it. Setting the stage and the ambiance was needed to get to that point where we were running with Vasya in the forest.
If you're in the mood for something totally different and want to try it... you won't be disappointed :)

Review: In this book Tavi has completed his training and through unforeseen circumstances, is thrown into commanding a legion of soldiers. The High Lord of Kalare is leading a rebellion against the High King, and has joined forces with the bestial Canim. Tavi's legion finds themselves in the thick of battle against Kalare's forces and the Canim. We also have the other main characters stories so the action switches back and forth from Amara and Bernard, Isana, and Tavi. Excellent story lines, all. Thoroughly enjoying this series.
