Jayme | 4225 comments Hey Team - We are having such horrible weather here that I decided to play around with a spread sheet since I can't get in the pool. lol
Take a look at it and let me know your thoughts.

Roz | 4467 comments That’s great Jayme. So glad you had time on your hands, even if it meant you couldn’t get in the pool.
I’m off to start gophering.
Any suggestions for a catchy name, teammates?

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 1732 comments Nice, Jayme! I have no name ideas, so whatever you all come up with is fine with me.

Looks great, thanks Jayme. I also have some time on my hands as well, as it is so cold and windy here.

As far as a catchy name was thinking about something to do with going back to the past. Perhaps, 'Back in Time', 'Turn back the Clock', 'Time Travellers'

A question about the books to read. Can they be new books that fit the categories or do they need to be ones that have been on my TBR list for some time.

message 6: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4225 comments They can be new books that fit the categories.
Great ideas for a team name.
I really like "Time Travellers"

message 7: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4467 comments Time Travellers works for me.

message 8: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4163 comments Hi everyone! Thanks for making a spreadsheet Jayme! I like time travelers. Maybe we can use 3s as Es in travelers to tie in the team 3

Serial Killing

Very clever. I will change our name on the thread since it seems everyone likes the name.

If people want to start posting what tasks they could read, I can start plugging their names in the spread sheet for the task that way we can see which years it looks like we can complete for the extra bonus points.

Also, if you can write if your book could also fit another task that way we can move books around if we need to.

message 11: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Jun 02, 2023 11:59AM) (new)

Jayme | 4225 comments I can read:

2014
The Winners - 671 pages - chunkster
If someone else has chunksters that connect, this book will also work for 2016 - 3rd in series

2015
Paper Cuts - 6th in series - could also fit 2017 - country of birth
Iron Lake or Cherry Pie or Die or Delilah Green Doesn't Care- 1st in series
Light of the Spirit - 4th in series

2022
Harlem Shuffle - set in New York
First Grave on the Right - published 2011
East Wind, Rain - author Paul - also works for 2022 direction in title and 2020 airplane on cover

Maybe?
I have a 6th book that I may be able to get to The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old it can work for two places, so I will read it last to see where it needs to go
2021 - task 3 "secret" in title or 2018 - character over 60
but if you have books that can be read for those tasks, go for it since I may not get to this one.

2020
A Dangerous Business - set in California

message 12: by Amanda (last edited May 29, 2023 05:31AM) (new)

Amanda | 1732 comments I can read these:

Set on an island (2016) - The Only Survivors
Take Home Item: Bird (2016) - Other Birds
Published in 2019 (2021) - A Woman Is No Man

message 13: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4467 comments I'll start with:

2022: Road Trip

Burnout by Sean Platt Burnout (headlights)
Remembering the Bones (bones in title)

message 14: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited May 29, 2023 09:40AM) (new)

Jayme | 4225 comments If someone else has books for the chunkster, I just realized I can read books for 3rd and 4th in a series (but I couldn't also read the chunkster) - that way we will have closed that year for bonus points unless someone else has books for the series.

What do you all think?

message 15: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 1732 comments I can read The Lost Metal, which works for either chunkster or fourth in series.

If you read it for the chunkster, it can connect to my chunkster because they were both written in 2022 - that would work! What do you think?

Odette (odman) | 971 comments I can swap my 2 books under Zany Zodiac to Chunker Connection. Better to try and have some complete sections.

Surfacing - Paperback version 199 Pages
Fire with Fire - Paperback version 480 pages
Total 679 pages which meets criteria of 2 books of 500+ pages

message 19: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4163 comments I was looking at the spreadsheet and I can do The Winter of the Witch for the 3rd book in a series. Or it would work for my favorite genre (2017 challenge) and it was published in 2019 (the 2021 challenge)

Don't forget that they have to connect some way with one of the chunksters and with each other, so how do they connect?

update after looking at books :)
Surfacing can connect with The Winners because they are both contemporary fiction and Surfacing and Fire with Fire can connect because Fire with Fire is also contemporary fiction.

Odette (odman) | 971 comments Odette wrote: "I can swap my 2 books under Zany Zodiac to Chunker Connection. Better to try and have some complete sections.

Sorry did not read Kristie's version carefully and is not going to work as there is no connection between the 2 books I chose. Still want to go for the Chunkster connection, so will substitue one of the books

Instead of Surfacing, I will read Atmosphere of Hope: Searching for Solutions to the Climate Crisis by Tim Flannery - 256 pages

The connection now between this book and Fire with Fire are that they are both written by Australian authors.

Hopefully that is me sorted now with
2 books in Chunksters and
2 books in series.

Let's plug it in for third in the series. I have a book that I can read for 4th in a series and then that year will be complete.

Do you have the hardback or paper back version of Fire with Fire? The hardback is 517 pages. If you have the hardback you won't have to read the other one for chunkster.

Also, they would all connect because they are all contemporary fiction

My copy of Fire with Fire has 448 pages. It is a large paperback. So near to 500 pages, however other book is short.

Jayme | 4225 comments Hey Team
I was thinking about different strategies to get the most points and I was wondering if we want to try and complete the year for the bonus points, or we can just read what we want and no stress?

We have years 2014 & 2015 filled. I'm going to look and see if I have other books that might help complete a year since I have some books in years that don't look like they will be filled.
Does that make sense?

message 35: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4467 comments I think that’s the best strategy, Jayme. I’ll look at what I have and see if I can switch out some of my options to complete a year.

Jayme | 4225 comments Roz wrote: "I think that’s the best strategy, Jayme. I’ll look at what I have and see if I can switch out some of my options to complete a year."

Are you thinking about moving your books for the year 2022? I actually have 2 books that could help fill that year and then you wouldn't have to move them.

message 37: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited May 30, 2023 10:22AM) (new)

Jayme | 4225 comments I'm going to remove my book from 2020/California and read First Grave on the Right for 2022 - published in 2011.
If someone has a book that would fit for published in 2011, I can move it because I have another book that would fit either author named Paul or directions in title.

message 41: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4225 comments Roz wrote: "Jayme, if you want I can read 2015 (6th or more in a series). I have The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon."

Cool, I'll put you in for 6th in series. I have a book that can fit both "author named Paul" and "direction in title" for 2022, so if someone has a book for either of those I can easily flipflop my book. Which means we are one away from completing that year.

Casceil still needs to check in, so we'll see what tasks she can read and go from there.

Katrisa | 4163 comments Hey, so for my trip I am going on, I am flying to Oregon to my sister's place and then the 2 of us are driving down the coast to San Diego and I thought we were going to leave on the 2nd on our drive, but she ended up having to reschedule an appointment so we aren't leaving until the 3rd. Anyway, we already had a book planned for our drive but I didn't think I could use it for the toppler since we were going to be going on the 2nd - but now I will be able to use it.
So I can do Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith. Maybe replace my nonfiction book (Unthinkable: What the World's Most Extraordinary Brains Can Teach Us About Our Ownwith this one and I can see if I can find another book that can fit somewhere we need it?

Great - I'll plug you in for that one with a question mark and we will see how it goes.

And what a fabulous sounding trip. The Northwest and Pacific coasts are so beautiful. Henry and I are heading out to Washington state the last two weeks of June to hike Olympic, North Cascade and Mt. Rainer National Parks.
Let the summer vacations begin!

Also, I've been in contact with Casceil and she's waiting to see where everyone is plugging in their books, and then will fill in the gaps. She will be our secret weapon!

My chunkster The Winners is waiting patiently for me to start reading it. I can't wait to get to the book. It's been on my TBR for way to long.
