I'm sorry.
I determined I had read this before. It seems familiar when I was reading it.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the descriptions in this story. I'm sure Toddy never thought he'd ever see Fette. I can imagine his expression when the shabby Fette adresses the posh London doctor!

The ending was rather abrupt, kind of like losing the hot water in the middle of a shower.

1) Did the title of this short story give you an idea of what the story was going to be about? Why? Why not?
2) How important was the time period to the story? Did you think the story accurately portrayed what was happening at that time in history? Why? Why not? If you think the story was somewhat accurate could this story be set in a different time period and still seem accurate?
3) Which character or moment prompted the strongest emotional reaction for you? Why?
4) How did the relationship dynamic between Fettes and Macfarlane affect their interactions? Would their interactions be different had the dynamics of their relationship been different? How so?
5) What do you believe Macfarlane's motives really were? Were they based on the desire for medical research? Financial? Something else?
6) What is your opinion about the need to further scientific/medical knowledge vs. society's morality within the context of this story?
