Damnation Code Featured Author Sept 2023

Synopsis of story:

Apocalyptic cults. Cursed relics. Paranormal terrorists. Only one man stands against the forces of darkness. After his fiancée is slain by a murderous cult, a professional soldier dedicates himself to a new mission–hunting down twisted occultists around the globe.

After a decade spent fighting the enemy abroad and keeping his country safe, Delta Force Operator Mark Talon is ready to put his military career behind him and settle down with the love of his life. But Talon's world crumbles when his fiancée becomes the victim of a diabolical cabal. The military man now has a new foe in his crosshairs, and this promises to be a very different war.

The person responsible for his beloved's death is a Silicon Valley tycoon allied with the forces of darkness. Fusing cutting-edge computer technology with an ancient evil, the enemy here cannot be stopped by bullets alone. If Talon is to be victorious in his mission of vengeance, he will need to master a new method of warfare -- the arcane arts! He must become... the Occult Assassin.

William Massa | 8 comments Thanks for checking out my book. The Book 1-3 collection is still available for 0.99 so probably the best way to check it out. Thinking of turning Occult Assassin into a screenplay so can't wait to hear what you guys think. Big thanks to Marie for choosing my book.

Going to toss out the first question William. :)

How did this story come about?

message 15: by Graeme (last edited Sep 02, 2023 11:12PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Graeme Rodaughan | 1197 comments Just completed chapter 5.

The narrative is 'very quick,' kinda "Just, the facts highlights, Ma'am." Which suits a novella format.

I think, given my experience with the Hexecutioner, I may only have read William's shorter format fiction. I'm curious to see how he'd handle a longer format.

BTW: This story feels like a movie and I want some popcorn with it.

Michael J. (michaeljclarke) | 87 comments I'm about 25% into the book so far. An easy, fun read with plenty of hooks and gripping scenes to keep me engaged.

Graeme Rodaughan | 1197 comments Hi William,

I assume you do some longer form books, do you have any recommendations of where to start?

Graeme Rodaughan | 1197 comments Ch 10. Gripping stuff.

Graeme Rodaughan | 1197 comments Finished. 5 stars for me. It really gets going in the 2nd half.

I am curious William. Did you have to do a lot of research regarding the occult when you wrote this book?

I am up to chapter 20! I remember the last time I read this book I kind of flew through it as I was just entrapped within the story! :)

Graeme Rodaughan | 1197 comments I'm up for book #2 if anyone wants to roll straight forward into it.

My other read fell through, and I'm looking for some entertainment.

Cobwebs-Iced-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 49 comments I'll read this one tomorrow hopefully. I read Permafrost and Holly this week, and am engrossed in Lacuna's Point (Horror Aficionados) and surely I'll finish it today.

That’s a logical guess considering who is behind the cultists. We shall see.

Yes. I agree. Took me this long to get to where you were but moving forward now. On vacation and many spots without internet. Remote cabin on the northern bay.

I will read it with you but closer to the end of the month if you can hold off. :)

Will set up a thread in here too for it in case others would like to continue on as well when they finish this book.

Ahhhh a remote cabin on the bay sounds peaceful and relaxing, Michael. :)

Michael J. (michaeljclarke) | 87 comments Trying to finish this before I get to the cabin. At 81% and a good place to stop. Pretty intense. I see how Massa is cleverly setting this up for a continuing series. Impressive.

Cobwebs-Iced-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 49 comments I finished today, and quite pleased overall. I went in expecting Action, Adventure, Thrills, Violence (all those subgenres that were labeled "Men's Fiction" back in the 1950's and 1960's). There is that, but I was particularly impressed with (view spoiler)

I always wanted to do James Bond versus the occult and was looking for the right way into the story. Eventually I decided to take the premise more into a Person of Interest/Punisher/The Executioner direction with the horror elements thrown into the mix.

Interestingly enough, I'm currently debating if I should try to turn Occult Assassin into a screenplay. Trying to decide if I should just adapt the first book or cherry pick elements from the sequels.

Some. But I also read and watch a lot of horror so some of that stuff seeps into through osmosis. :)

Would be great to hear if you guys think the plot for book 2 would work better for a first movie or best to stick with the computer cult.

I love the series and how you created it.

Also I feel that this same answer could be said for your book series of The Hexecutioner as well, would you agree?

Both series to me run parallel with that same type of theme with the supernatural and justice being served in the Punisher style. :)

William Massa | 8 comments Pitting avenging heroes against the occult is definitely a theme in my work. Currently working on Night Hunter, which is basically Occult Assassin with a stronger touch of the Witcher going against more traditional demons and monsters.
