Mary I like Murakami's books in general, though they are usually a little too weird for me to really love. This one was a more "normal" (if that's the right word) story - that is, the plot can be described, unlike his other stories that are fun but confusing. The New York Times review said this is like experiencing someone else's dream - and it felt that way to me, and I really enjoyed it. A man is abruptly cut off from his high school friends, and is affected by it for many years. It does not sounds like much, but as the story bounces back and forth between the present and past, exploring all sorts of ideas, the life he is leading is very interesting. I definitely enjoyed this book, and ended up reading it straight through one day!
