Lexi | 351 comments I am at 35% which I did as an audio yesterday and have not made any progress today, so far I am not liking it.

(view spoiler)

Lexi | 351 comments Spoilers are really hard to do on a phone so I’m going to wait for you but really, that book deeply annoyed me.

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments I wasn't a big fan of the first one. I found the lead offensive

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments I’ve officially started the book

Lexi | 351 comments I saw you liked the second one a bit better. How are you liking this one so far?

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments Meh, the son is annoying me. At most he’s like 7. And that might be an overestimate.

I know I might have a slight skewed view of what a 6 or 7 year old will say/do since my kid is autistic with a serious speech delay. But just no. If you want a kid to have a certain interaction level with adults, just make them older.

The racism is a bit less in book 2 than book one. But in general I’m finding Amelia to be an offensive character

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments I’m about 20% in. I’m listening at 1.5x because then her offensive thoughts go by faster

Lexi | 351 comments It gets worse as the book goes on what the seven year old child is supposedly able to do. Treatment of religion and the pro Imperialism are also really heavy handed.

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments Listening to this while reading Warrior Girl Unearthed, which deals with universities returning indigenous peoples remains and artifacts, is a bit jarring.

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments Letting him keep a pet lion like a domestic dog? What?

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments The relationship between Amelia and Emmerson seems to be reading different in this book too. They would always needle each other some but he's just coming across as mean half the time. I'm not sure if it's how it's written or how the narrator is reading it.

Lexi | 351 comments He seemed deeply condescending and rude to me the whole time. The only thing they seemed to enjoy doing together for most of the book was physical.

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments I'm a bit baffled people find this book cute and humorous.

around 70% through. Hopefully will finish today so I can move on to something else

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments Glad that’s over!

Overall meh

Lexi | 351 comments I thought the ending was trite and lazy writing.

Judith (brownie72011) | 97 comments I would say that’s a fair assessment and makes it hard to believe there’s like 13 more novels in the series
