Both these are coming out early in the year, so might be in the library system by December!

I have been waiting for Fourteen Days: An Unauthorized Gathering since December 2022! Other than an expected next-in-series, I don't think I've come across an expected book this far in advance! It's driving me crazy!!!

I didn’t know he had a new one coming out. This is great news and it is now on my TBR list!

It comes out in April. I hope it's good! If I find something else for this prompt, I'll slot this one in the "number in a title" or "not a novel" prompt. I'm definitely reading this one, though!
This is always a fun prompt and an easy prompt for me. I read a lot of new releases because I subscribe to Book of the Month club, so this prompt will certainly be filled by one of the books I get next year through them!
I feel like I have quite a few prompts next year that I can't plan for!
I feel like I have quite a few prompts next year that I can't plan for!

In the unlikely event that I finish my plan early, and the library has something new that interests me, I might actually do it. My local library is a bit slow on new releases, but I've recently gained slightly dodgy access to be a big shiny library with lots of new books, so it might happen :)

The Fury
The Great Divide
The Lantern's Dance
The Women
The Princess of Las Vegas
Wandering Stars

I have this shelf on my ŷ where I add all the newbies of 2024 that I'm curious of: /review/list...
Check it out, maybe you want to add something new. :)

How to ADHD: An Insider's Guide to Working with Your Brain is being released January 2. (3rd? First week in January, anyway.)

I am also looking forward to James by Percival Everett. "A brilliant, action-packed reimagining of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, both harrowing and ferociously funny, told from the enslaved Jim's point of view."

Ooh, that sounds interesting! I'll keep an eye out for that one.

I love that trilogy and read the book the day it came out! So good!!! I used that one for a different prompt though. For this one I read House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas. Also so good!!!

Fourteen Days: A Collaborative Novel FINALLY came out on Feb 6, 2024 after waiting since Dec 2022 so I was able to read it for this prompt as I'd hoped. I was surprised at the lackluster average rating it was getting (3.31 on ŷ, 3.8 on Amazon - not sure why the difference), but after reading it I can see why. I think like a lot of books of short stories, especially by more than one author, the experience can vary from story to story. Although technically this is NOT a book of short stories, it WAS authored by 36(!) authors, so of course there will be variations of skill and reader taste. I was going to give it 3.5⭐️ (in a world where this is possible) because I felt some sections were 3⭐️ and some were 4⭐️. In the end I rounded up because of the unexpected ending, the creative structure, and the overall effort to collaborate in a cohesive way with so many authors.

Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts: Stories and Recipes from Five Generations of Black Country Cooks

Thanks for the heads up.

The Queen of Sugar Hill ReShonda Tate 3.5***
Subtitle: A Novel of Hattie McDaniel. Tate’s novel begins with the Oscar ceremony when McDaniel won for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Mammy in Gone With the Wind. But Hattie McDaniel was so much more than that iconic role, and Tate gives us all of her. Having read this book, I have a new appreciation for the trailblazing McDaniel and other Black actors of her generation did.

Gabriel García Márquez had a release, but its posthumous and I've heard reports that it's not very good. I'm thinking I will continue to read his books in released order.
Ursula K. Le Guin had a release, but it turned out to be a re-release of an older book. So, not really a 2024 book at all. I'd still like to read it, but I feel duped.
Stephen King had a release (no surprise) but that happened this month and I am nowhere near the top of the wait list at my library.
I really want to read the sequel to Iron Widow, that is Heavenly Tyrant - but it won't come out until December. Though, I did pre-purchase it, so I can read it starting on release date.
So, finally I ended up with Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands. It was released in January and had no wait list at all. The only problem there was that I hadn't read the first book in the series. So, I guess I read them out of order.

short and sweet review: 3.5
This was a good love story. I felt as though it was missing many details. This book will put you in the mind set of the book The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. And I gave this book 5 stars.

I enjoy reading individual short stories, but in a book of them, I find they tend to run into each other and get lost. I almost preferred the linking parts of Fourteen Days to the stories, though there were some very good ones (and some not so good). An excellent idea for a book, though.
Jan Carson is an excellent writer, and all of the stories in Quickly were good, though there were three I found difficult, [(view spoiler)

REJECT: A character that is a fish out of water

Rating: 4 stars
An eye-opening memoir. His discussions of his various relationships really touched me. Seems we have the same perspectives, whether straight or gay. Also, an insight to the culture of the 70's. Very eloquently written.

REJECT: A book that features a hobby

A debut book set in 1946 Vermont. Hope the series continues.
