#16 book number 4 The Ballad of the Sad Café and Other Stories finished 3/5.
Depressing yet unforgettably strange and vivid!

Sadly it is not my favourite - I liked Less Than Angels and also Jane and Prudence more.

Book 12
The Conqueror's Wife three stars for this reader.
Thought the novel was going to mainly be about Matilda.

The Freaks of Mayfair 3 stars
I don't know what the number of this book is.
I've seen the list of book covers.

Hey Amanda, I think the number of the book simply refers to your specific number, as in, how many books from the pool have you read? If this is your first book, and you’re #18, you just say something like, #18 here with my first book, “book name, finished March 12, three stars. It’s just to help Carol keep track, make sure her totals agree with yours. Hope that helps! ;o)

My library system doesn't carry this, so I may have to do some further investigating.

I loved the trilogy

I hope you can get it, the GR page isn’t very helpful, I’m afraid! I was going to ask you to take a look at it, as you’re a GR librarian. Not the one I linked my review to; there’s a second page, also with the New York Review of Books cover, that looks odd. Here’s the link: /book/show/1...
I saw (& shuddered) you have linked to one of the Crazy Bot imports. Long sad story about how this site is going down the gurgler.
If you ever see an entry that looks as bad as this - try not to use it!
/book/show/2...
This is a better edition.
I'll look at yours later to see if I can fix it. When no one has added it to their reading list it is quite simple but about 6 people have added this one, so I'll have to check on what to do. :)

Sorry, I had no idea what that was, it’s the edition and cover I had, so chose it!

Carol, feel free to tweak my corrections.

I'll look tomorrow. I'll explain why in our chat thread. :/

Hi Barb
I made a few more corrections. If you want me to explain them just message me. :)
(Some won't show for another few minutes. This site very heavily cached now)

Carol--Thank you! Your corrections/additions to my efforts are self-explanatory. I knew after I finished that it needed more work but I was unsure of just what else would do the trick.
Thats ok! & well done you for doing an award! That used to be my speciality but the number of junk awards there are & having to correct staff edits on them left me disenchanted & for the most part I only do three literary NZ ones now.
But I will add the shortlist for the lost Booker next week. Looks like a quality field.

Finished March 16, 4 stars for this charming, irreverent, clever novel, published in 1915 but ahead of its time, I think! Here’s my review: /review/show...

I finished book #3, “Beyond the Vanishing Point by Ray Cummings today. It’s a short book, but quite a bit of adventure packed into its pages. I would liken it to a mash-up of “Alice in Wonderland meets “The Fly and “The Jetsons and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids even though it was published in 1931 (when, apparently radioactivity was our friend). 🤣🤣 A quick romp with familiar characters put into massive/microscopic escapades. 4 stars for the fantasy of it all.
Also, it’s available on the Project Gutenberg website. Our library’s Inter-library Loan program is on hiatus until the renovation of the Main Library is completed. No idea when that will be, but glad to have been able to find it!

Added for you, Kate. It does sound interesting - & free is my favourite price!
In future could you put the date you completed the read? It honestly helps me if I go off track! :)

Yes, of course. I always post the info the day I finish the book, but I will try to remember and add the date nonetheless.
