Great ideas, Alissa.
That mix of books for the states is really, really good. I have quite a few on my tbr.
I can't wait to get my hands on Legends & Lattes, to see what the hype is all about. It looks fun, so I think I will really enjoy it.
Of course, I loved The City (Autumn #2). I just read a short story by same author in that dystopian universe called The Cost of Living. It was just okay for me. It showed "the cost of living" when you make bad decision after bad decision, really.
Code Zero was fun, but of course, its Joe Ledger.... ssooo.
The darker era of Harry Dresden. I haven't read any of these books in 2 years. I'm just not ready to let him go. *sigh*
Good luck and happy reading!! 📚📚📚

Happy reading, can't wait to hear your thoughts on all of them!
Another great graphic novel series:
American Vampire, Vol. 1 by Scott Snyder. Great lore, pretty gory, but a great story.
28 Days Later, Vol. 1: London Calling by Michael Alan Nelson I think this might be just as good, if not better than the movie. Its just cool. Only 6 books
The Dark Tower #1 by Stephen King; Robin Furth. **For anyone who is ready to step into the DT Universe and start making connections with that universe; I highly recommend reading at least the first 3-4 graphic novels here, before reading The Gunslinger, which can be weird, off-putting and did I mention, weird.

You are so organized. It's difficult to comment on such a list. Some series that I'm also enjoying, Some of your graphics, and many of your books, I've enjoyed. I bet you'll have a most enjoyable reading year.

i have a notebook that I jot stuff down all year lol I think I WAY overdid it this year but whateves, ;-)

Happy reading!

BOOK 1
The Locked Door by Freida McFadden

3.5 STARS
Ebook
This is my 2nd Freida McFadden. I liked this one much better than

The ending was SO cheesy but I did not see it coming. I don't know what it is about serial killers and their family members (in this case, its the serial killer's estranged daughter) but I love these types of books and the palpable tension I get from reading these!

LOL, no, no surprise there.
Reading Small Mercies too. I know Lehane will break my heart again, but I need to keep going.

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

4 STARS
Audiobook
Remember that scene in Castaway when Tom Hank's character gets rescued and his long time girlfriend has married someone else and has a child, but she is struggling with her new life as she doesn't want to say goodbye to her old life?
This is basically what this story is about, Emma having to struggle with choosing which love of her life to be with . I struggled alongside this with her, as I saw both men as her soulmate and felt for this nearly impossible decision.
Ultimately, I was so happy with the ending and left the story sighing happily. An oldie (from 2016) but another goodie from Queen TJR

No, I'm not shocked. I did the same thing! I don't think there is any hope for either of us.

BOOK 3
She Started It by Sian Gilbert

2.5 STARS
Book
If you received a random email from the girl you mercilessly teased back in middle school/high school suddenly asked you and your friends to be in her wedding, to fly to a all-expense paid vacation to an isolated island for a weekend ( this takes place in England so its a hen party) and she's paying for all of it, all you have to do is show up..... would you go?
The girl whose live you ruined.....whom you've never apologized to.... what could go wrong? ;-)
Overall it was a wild ride that kept me guessing, and these 4 girls were TERRIBLE who deserved everything that happened to them. For me, it felt flat at the end but overall it was a fun buddy read with Lindsey. And we both knocked a BOTM book off our shelves!

Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane

4 STARS
Book
If you are looking for a brilliantly told novel with raw and real characters that ends with everyone hugging and living happily ever after, then this is not the book for you.
If you are looking for a brilliantly told novel with raw and real characters that ends with some people learning something about themselves and how the world works, and ends with you wiping the tears out of your eyes, grab a few tissues and pick this one up. Dennis Lehane did it again.

It was brilliant, raw and real. Such amazing writing! Glad to see you enjoyed it too. Although enjoy is not exactly the right word for this book. Maybe that should be appreciated it too.

The Lost Ticket by Freya Sampson

3.5 STARS
Book
I read this for my virtual book club, and I really thought it was adorable. It reminded me a lot of

This was a nice easy read if you enjoy chance encounters and cheesy love stories.

The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons

3 STARS
Audiobook
This book has been on my TBR list ever since I joined Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ in 2013 and I FINALLY got to it!!
Is it a lot of "jump scare" scary? No. But is it a slow build with ecletic characters and the scenes that are indeed horror are truly horrific? Absolutely! Plus, any old house can be haunted but why is it creepier when the house is a brand new build? Read this and find out!
=)

BOOK 7
Gideon Falls, Vol. 1: The Black Barn by Jeff Lemire

3.5 STARS
Graphic Novel
Two men- a young troubled man obsessed with finding hidden clues within the city's trash & a down-on-his-luck Catholic priest,- seemingly with nothing in common . However, they do not know it yet but their lives are about to intersect in Gideon Falls, a small town with big secrets, including an elusive Black Barn, an ominous building that seems to disappear but when it again appears, death and destruction lie in its wake.
This one seemed to be a character/world building one, but the graphics were very good and I already requested the next installment from the library.

BOOK 8
The Many Lives of Mama Love: A Memoir of Lying, Stealing, Writing, and Healing by Lara Love Hardin

5 STARS
Audiobook
From soccer mom to opiod user to jailhouse "momma" to successful ghostwriter/ co-writer (she helps co-write

I Found Puppets Living In My Apartment Walls by Ben Farthing

2 STARS
Ebook
In addition to my current challenges, I am also attempting to participate in group read selections for my other groups- Addicted to YA, Catching Up with Classics and Horror Aficionados. I bet you can guess which group this one was chosen for lol
If you had a fear of Sesame Street or the Muppets ( as the author states) you may find this book terrifying. I myself found it a bit light on the horror, almost like a Are You Afraid of the Dark? episode. I mean, a homicidal Elmo is pretty scary but I feel like I could dropkick it and get away....

The Stranger Upstairs by Lisa M. Matlin

2.5 STARS
Book
I read this BOTM choice with Lindsay and I wouldn't be surprised if we both had the same exact bald spot on our heads from scratching it so hard. What in the hell was this book lol
Sarah is THE most unreliable narrator I have ever read, and after every chapter I found myself more confused as I just could not take any of what she was saying and doing as the truth. In this case, the confusion worked but unfortunately it fell flat for me at the very end and felt it could have been "cleaned" up a bit more smoother.

Completed a continuing series, and was back into the throes of Eve Dallas!
Glory in Death by J.D. Robb

3.5 STARS
Audiobook
This is not your typical detective/police procedural series, as it takes place in 2058 and by then we can travel easily across the world and to the moon.
I love Detective Eve, and that she is horribly flawed with a horrific past, She is also smart as a whip and determined to get justice for the string of important women being slaughtered by an angry killer. Looking forward to continuing the series!
