Mary | 73 comments Hi Fellow Readers,

2024!!! So many possibilities!

1) A Voyage Long and Strange: Rediscovering the New World read 4/26/2024. 5/5 stars

2) 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus

3) 1776 read 2/21/2024 4/5 stars

4) Sacrilege

5)The Lacuna

6) The Private Lives of the Tudors

7) The Voyage

8) The Silence of Bonaventure Arrow 3 Stars

9) The Starless Sea 12/01/2024. 3 Stars- confusing and visually beautiful sometimes

10) Age of Myth

11) The Testaments 12/31/2024 4 stars. I found it a remarkably hopeful ending to the tale.

12) The Bone Clocks

Alternates:
a) Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring 4/5 stars
b) Escalante's Dream: On the Trail of the Spanish Discovery of the Southwest 3.5 stars mostly because I don't think everyone would relate to his reflections- I quite enjoyed it.
c) The Last Kingdom
d) New Mexico: A History

Okay, I see you Mary!

Are you only going to select 12?? Don't forget those alternates; lord knows I needed them this year. 😩🤦🏾

Heh, Yes, I will get those alternates on there. But can I move past the stacks of non-fiction to include lighter reads?

BTW- I loved the Mistress of the Art of Death Series- I read a few of those instead of working on my 12 + 4 2023 list. Haha!

Yyeesss. Do whatever you want, my dear! We want you to enjoy your list. remember, keep out the "should reads".... ☺️

That series was excellent. I keep waffling on the 4th or 5th book, which i think was written by her daughter or another author. It had mixed reviews. *sigh*

I look forward to seeing what other books you choose. Pick books you want to read, not that you think you should.

I hope to read The Testaments as well this year. I have been enjoying Cornwell's Sharpe adventures. Maybe I'll try another series when I finally finish with him. Enjoy your 2024 reading.

I have read a ton of David Robert's books. I started with In Search of the Old Ones: Exploring the Anasazi World of the Southwest which started me on an odyssey to explore similar places in the SW. I live in Colorado and love New Mexico. Douglas Preston's book Cities of Gold: A Journey Across the American Southwest in Pursuit of Coronado is also a fascinating read exploring some of the history of the SW. I will likely pair Escalante's Dream: On the Trail of the Spanish Discovery of the Southwest with The Dominguez-Escalante Journal: Their Expedition Through Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico in 1776
since Roberts is retracing their steps. Happy Reading!

Thanks, Denise! I was just at Valley Forge and I am excited to learn more about that period.

Hi Bill, I loved watching the Sharpe series with Sean Bean. This will be my Cornwell. I have high hopes! I am looking forward to reading The Testaments. Atwood most always delivers.

Thanks, Patricia! I am enjoying my selections so far. For Horwitz, I started with Confederates in the Attic: Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War which is fascinating and hilarious. I highly recommend it.

Mary | 73 comments 7 completed! That's good for me. Yay! I enjoyed my picks for the most part and I got a couple off the list that have been hanging around for a while. Overall, a good showing.
