Settlement Portal Challenge Questions

Feel free to post any questions about the challenge here. �

The potentials for this challenge had me spinning around in different directions. So many options!

- Who do you want to play as?
- What world would you like to be a part of?
- Will you plant yourself in a particular time frame or use a time warp story to skip around?

You know, there's a steam game called Circle Empires:



It's a procedurally generated RTS game, and for some reason it's how I imagine all these little portal settlements connecting, as a visual...

I totally don’t understand this challenge but you had me at role playing so I’d like to give it a shot lol

I know Soo posted a list of things to think about somewhere, but I can't remember what thread that was in... things like setting, character, powers, etc...

And something about limits of how many of each...

Trying to decide if I want a telepathic spy from SPYxFAMILY or if I want to shape-change from Animorphs.... Kind of want one of each to be in my party...

I'm working on this today. Will polish and post tonight.

Pirate Nemesis (better?... I love the series name/concept)

Slave to Sensation (if you want both in a single series again, similar to Animorphs)

I pinned the other thread, and I also deleted my first comment (and Saar's, sorry haha) in this thread so yours can be at the top if you want to put anything there :)

so how do I join in? do I get my own thread to track progress etc? I'm not sure if I understand everything as you do, but I hope I am rather free in interpretation. If I miss something important I hope you'll correct me!

Jenna was great and gave this challenge it's own group thread.
- Go to top of this page and click on Settlement Portal Challenge.
- Create your own Thread in SPC.
- I recommend that you save the first 1-5 posts for you to use for the challenge. Like I saved 3 to use for creative posts.
- Need to make your Settlement Base in 1st Post.

I'm brainstorming on how people can access/use the Dimensional Library.

It would be fun if Players want to interact with each other's settlement too.

I made a thread and made a temp name as a filler. Right now, I'm trying to find a book character that I want to use as my Player. Got a couple I like but none are yelling to be the one. 😆

I haven't made my thread yet, but I'm thinking about the same things... I might wait until I'm done with January's selection of books to make a decision...

You could be Leeds from Legion, but juggling split personality aspects and trying to build a settlement solo could be rough!

Everyone starts solo! Depending on how you develop, you can add other players or side characters/animals/etc.

LOL I'd have to jump in with you on those Legion reads then! I'm thinking about it... on the plus side, you get a horde for the price of one right there...

But think about it, you get your knowledge all split by personalities and yet only one body to do all the things. If 5 personalities are doing work, ya go nonstop and keel over exhausted.

do we do the base settlement in order? so first book to read = who, 2nd book = when?

I'm not sure how to decide which book to read for which category, I won't really know until I have read it in many cases...

Nah, it's personal preference. I would recommend doing one of 1-3 first: Who - When - Where.

That will determine how you will build your settlement.

I am still trying to decide on my Who/Player character. I may be shameless and use a somewhat OP character. 😎 To make it slightly easier to build stuff.

Telepath sounds awesome! But 4 yr old. So limitations. Sounds like a grand challenge!

It's really cute so far--we've been BRing it at the rate of 1 every two weeks from the start of the year. I've been reading in Japanese for the practice.

@Soo: I've got a question: I came upon another challenge in another group about dragons and would like to integrate that somehow in this challenge here. Can I do that? The world where I would like to be part of is one where you have to collect dragon eggs (by reading colored books f.e.) and then provide them some habitat, regarding the sort of dragon it is. (f.e. a blue dragon eats fish, so it's habitat is the sea = read a book about the sea or where ships are mentioned in...) Does that makes sense?

Yup. You can make it go pretty much whichever way ya want.

Like if you made your Place a VR Game, easy to setup the collecting dragon eggs.
