Cindy Anstey is definitely one of my go-to author for a light regency mystery romance tale. I love how the protagonist are always intelligent, education, and of course, a lady though not quite according to the definition of the time setting. The mysteries are quite light so don't expect anything gory or twisted and the romance are just too too sweet.
In Duels & Deception, Miss Lydia Whitfield, is a very much easily-loved protagonist. She does not think she has 'romance' in her and will marry according to her father's wishes for the good of their property, Roseberry. And yet, events are not unfolding exactly as her plans...
I think readers can easily see how the romance should unfold but just like reading thrillers, we also read for the suspense of when! how! and the sweet sweet ending [insert a big sigh of relief & contentment].
