I love the Rivers of London series but this is a bit of a disappointment. No Peter Grant, just a bit of Nightingale and just a bit of the Rivers. The first two-thirds read like it's YA although the last third gets a bit tougher. Not really a Rivers of London entry. Very short, very light. I did like it. 3 stars.

I have been thinking of starting the year with a taut mystery/ thriller that is literally unputdownable (read page-turner)
I haven't read a lot of mystery/ thriller in the recent years - suggest me something please.

The Alice Network was real. Louise de Bettignies, (code name: Alice) it’s leader and her fate during World War I were too. As is the martyred French village Oradour-sur Glane still stands today.
The author uses this true life war heroine’s story to spin a dual timeline narrative. Two women. One haunted and searching for someone during time as a spy in WWI France. The other searching for her missing cousin post WWII. Both find strength, and search for absolution.

Unputdownable" "The Lie Maker" by Linwood Barclay.

I am currently reading Fresh Water For Flowers by Valérie Perrin which is not my normal type of book, but I need to read more before deciding if I enjoy it or not!

I liked Fresh Water For Flowers. 🙂

In this sci-fi detective novel, people are dying from a mysterious cause in outer space habitats, and the prefects (police) have to stop the carnage (amongst other things).
Very good story. 4 stars

I love that series.

Finished reading The Long Shadow: The Classic Christmas Mystery by Celia Fremlin -- pretty good, although the blood droplets on the cover are sort of misleading.
I got a late start on The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride for this month's group read, while I'm reading You Dreamed of Empires by Álvaro Enrigue.

Toby Peters #12. It's WW II and Toby's in New York working to keep Albert Einstein safe with the help of Paul Robeson and his dentist friend Sheldon. I like this series a lot, 4 stars.
