Lucas was convinced that the key to identifying the killer was figuring out who had visited the Rices and bought that gun and he was right. His pursuit of Alan Nester led to Louis Vuillon’s identity. How would you rate overall the police procedurals of this investigation?

It was a complex investigation because Vuillion is so intelligent and a planner. He knew all the mistakes criminals made to get them caught and prepared to avoid them. I give the procedural a C+. The instincts were good, but the pitfalls were the same. Lucas inserted himself, personally, into too many women's lives. He was not off too much at Jennifer's announcement, but it was on his mind.
