Michelle (michellehartline) | 230 comments Well, since I'm to blame I might as well throw one out there since I've been considering a re-read of it anyway! Hero of Rome by Douglas Jackson. I loved that series.

You could look at Robert Low's Brothers of the Sands trilogy. I loved it. Not your typical Roman stuff, less about legions and emperors, more about a band of washed-up gladiators.

Thanks for the recom, must admit I did struggle with his style of writing with his opener in the Kingdom series & had to abandon.

That's a good series for sure, highly recommend the opening trilogy

Michaela | 98 comments As you all probably read the books I have on my list, I suggest the new one in the Kingsbridge series by Ken Follett, The Armour of Light which I got for Christmas and want to read over the next time.

This book has been on my TBR for over 10 years. I picked it up at the library literally yesterday!

Michelle, starting a new series is too big a commitment right now for me, but it does look interesting. As a *standalone alternative I will nominate the top ranking Gates of Fire from our listopa.

/list/show/2...

*not part of a series

I really enjoyed the first book of that series.

I totally understand, Ace! And it's a big series. I'm just throwing it out there as a consideration.
