A couple of things to keep in mind:
Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.
Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Thursday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Friday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.
If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain week, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the week in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)
If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.
We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.
If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!
Captain's Handbook
The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.
The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role every week, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.
Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.
Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.
If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.
The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Review
This was an okay first read. It was fun and I liked reading about Chelle's escapades with putting on a socially conscious modern version of "Oliver" but the author's tone towards the 'granola' or 'crunchy' lifestyle, as she called it, was a little much. I mean I understand there are those who take it very far and the author exaggerated it somewhat for comedic affect but I felt like she didn't give equal time to those that have want to authentically live their best life, however that it is. Those that might into that lifestyle probably would be offended in the tone, ridicule and sarcasm I felt coming from the book. But the love story was pretty good and Will's daughter was adorable.

Heads for Book Bandit and Tails for Seventh Heaven.

How It Fits: #1 in Series: Billionaires in Disguise: Lizzy
Review: I enjoyed the first book in this series even though it has a major cliffhanger. Lizzy meets Theo, who wants to take things verrry slowly. She really likes him but then meets Mannix who comes on very strong. We get left hanging with a pretty big shocker at the end of this book. Definitely reading on.

book: Six Feet Deep Dish by Mindy Quigley
finished: 2/18/24
pgs: 311
how it fits: book 1 of Deep Dish Mystery series
rating: 3 stars
review: Delilah's aunt's caretaker is murdered the night of opening her new deep dish pizza place and to keep it afloat and help her aunt, Delilah starts investigating. (view spoiler) Was a good start to the series, although the MC was a bit annoying, but the rest of the characters were good.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Book: Rules of Prey by John Sandford

Finished: 2/19/24
How it fits: Lucas Davenport series #1
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review:
I was nervous going in as some other folks buddy reading this series didn't care for it. I thought it was a nice police procedural with a fascinating killer. It's very dated, not only in technology but with derogatory language and views of anyone not a cishet white male. Lucas is a womanizer who says he wants to be a dad and marry his baby mama, yet he continues to sleep with another woman the whole time. It felt very against character so it makes me curious how that evolves in future books. I can see why he would be unlikable as a pompous cop who gets away with a lot of illegal activity, but somehow I found him endearing in a Harry Bosch kind of way.

Book: A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow
Qualification: A Song Below Water #1
Finished: 19 February 2024
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
Tavia is a typical teenager trying to figure out boys, mean girls and parents that don't understand but she is also a siren in a society that fears sirens. It doesn't help that all sirens are black girls and women. Struggling to become herself and hide herself, her one bright spot is her BFF and "sister" Effie. Effie is similarly struggling to figure out who she is while looking for a missing father. When a violent boyfriend is set free after killing his girlfriend because she was a siren, it sets in motion the push that both girls need better find themselves and their strengths.
I really appreciate how fantasy can take on real life issues and push them a bit farther to explore injustice and bias. Many fear a siren even when so few have committed any crime but the fear is the potential of these black women. There was definitely more than enough teenage angst and unnecessary miscommunication but I appreciated the girls coming of age and I really LOVED the gargoyle. If only we could all have a gargoyle to watch over us.

Review:
This book has been highly recommended by so many people. It is funny, cute, and a light quick read. It is very slow burn, this isn't a smutty romance. I don't know why I thought it was initially, so I was just a smidge disappointed that it wasn't. I kept going back and forth between a three and a four stars. The ending is what pushed it to a four for me. I think it was a lot of fun to read, but it's not something I'd read over and over. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thanks again for the reminder! I've updated my post.
