This Directional Challenge has two levels.

Level 1: Cardinal Directions
* North
* South
* East
* West

Level 2: Perpendicular Directions
* Up
* Down

Explanations.
* Level 1: Cardinal Directions. Perhaps you live in Europe. You could choose to read books set in/about Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Europe. . . . .Perhaps you choose to read books with the cardinal directions in the title. Example: The Left Hand of Darkness. . . . I will have a mix of stuff. Come look at my challenge once I post.

* Level 2: Perpendicular Directions. You can choose up from where you are. If you are at ocean level, your up could be a mountain. If you are on a mountain, you can think of down as seaside resort. . . . .You can define up and down as works for you

Big Idea: This challenge is posted to provide us with a jumping off place to help us enjoy our reading. Go forth and Read books 💪☀️

Vavita | 155 comments Is the prereadathon supposed to be the week prior to the official readath8n?

Cynda is preoccupied with RL (cynda) | 1580 comments Mod
Vavita, I usually try to set out a challenge about a month ahead of the readathon. I am a bit early this time, not by much. Since so many of my reading friends are struggling to organize reading time, I thought a little advance notice might be helpful. You can start this challenge anytime that suits you. I usually continue on for the warm down week after the readathon.

East - Fluye el Sena. Tres casos del comisario Adamsberg (river Sena is located in France)
West - Hearts in Atlantis (assuming Atlantis is located in Atlantic Ocean)
North - TBD
South - Dónde enterré a Fabiana Orquera (taking place in Argentina)

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 265 comments This sounds like a fun challenge! Here's my possible Pre-Readathon Directional Challenge TBR:

Level One: Cardinal Directions I live in California so I used my home for East and West, and the equator for North and South
East - Ghosted (set in NYC)
West - Murder in the Painted Lady (set in San Francisco)
North - The Ice Princess (set in Sweden)
South - The Dry (set in Australia)

Level Two: Perpendicular I did a slightly different interpretation for these, hopefully it works
Up - Fourth Wing (dragon riders are in the sky) or Fairy Tale (a character lives on a hilltop)
Down - Remarkably Bright Creatures (giant Pacific octopus live in the ocean)

Yea everyone good ideas.
I spent two weeks sitting on this challenge, knowing just knowing that I got something wrong. I should have said "vertical." Such is life--full of errors and delights ☀

message 10: by Lynnette (new)

Lynnette | 320 comments Just asking what did you want to insert vertical for?

Cynda is preoccupied with RL (cynda) | 1580 comments Mod
Lynette for the perpendicular. I would have needed an "across" for perpendicular. I will let it stand. I just want others to know that I may be slow sometimes--but I get there!

DONE North - Здесь была Бритт-Мари (Sweden is in the Northern Europe)

West - Hearts in Atlantis (assuming Atlantis is located in Atlantic Ocean)
South - Dónde enterré a Fabiana Orquera (taking place in Argentina)

Not sure yet what I will do next weekend. Hope I can at least read one book.

I'm starting tonight with Furia by Yamile Saied Méndez. I will breading from this challenge during the readathon and the week after.

message 17: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 265 comments I'm starting the challenge today with Ghosted for East. I have a lot of books picked out for the readathon so I will read through the challenge until the readathon. I will hopefully finish any books I have left the week after.

I felt the call of the Old Ways. I read Julie of the Wolves. . . . I will read Furia soon.
