When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they will have one year to qualify for initiation, during which time they will be permitted preliminary access to the Society’s archives and judged based on their contributions to various subjects of impossibility: time and space, luck and thought, life and death. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. The six potential initiates will fight to survive the next year of their lives, and if they can prove themselves to be the best among their rivals, most of them will.

Since I have the physical copy of book 2, I'm going to read that one over the weekend.

(view spoiler)[ I'm really enjoying this so far though I some managed to zone out when listening at the worst time and completely missed when they got the explanation of the society so I should really go back and actually read that part. I'm enjoying all of their different personalities and dynamics. Thus far I'm enjoying Nico's POV best. I really hope he's able to help Gideon. Parisa is fascinating, I'm excited to get to know her better. I'm loving how distinct and fleshed out all of these characters are. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ omg this got intense fast. It's so fascinating how Parisa set Callum up. I knew they were going to pick Callum but I figured he had something up his sleeve. Don't kill Tristan though. I like Callum the least so if one of them has to die I want it to be him. I'm also very interested in this other presense in Dalton's head, I'm wondering if it's the guy he killed. So many questions!! It was killing me not being able to finish this at work today. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I miss Libby being with them. The dynamic is so different and I don't like it. I feel like I'm missing so much as I try to figure out what's happening. The idea that the library is sentient is interesting. I feel like the narrative keeps bringing more questions with no answers but I'm trusting it will come together and make sense later. I'm struggling with this one. I groaned at the first Ezra Six chapter. I don't care about these people I want our six and also Gideon.
Parts 1-2
(view spoiler)[ Parisa and Dalton's relationship is intriguing. She's basically just holding him as a chess piece to defeat Atlas and he seems fine with it. This stuff with her husband is also interesting. I was shocked she was still in touch with him and that he still impacted her.
I like Niko getting Gideon an archives job so we see more of him, but also Niko you idiot don't do that.
I don't really know what Callum is up to but it's fun to read. I like that they are more together in this book, paired off doing their own things but we are getting more of the relationships than last time. That one they were all isolated, and it's nice to have the gang partly back together.
That said overall I'm not really sure what's happening and I really don't care about the Ezra Six stuff. (hide spoiler)]

I've had the second book with me for like a week and haven't had time to dive into it yet. I'm hoping it's slow enough at work that I can at least crack open the book and read a few pages. If not, I will most likely be reading it this weekend. Sorry for being so behind on this one. It's a bit harder for me to focus on a physical book during the week nowadays.

I am always behind on buddy reads so it's a nice change not to be the last one for once (not that I started this one on time lol).

Parisa running away from Dalton was not something I expected at all and that animation of her was so creepy. Part 7: (view spoiler)[Okay, yes, I knew Gideon knew about her disappearance. He took Dalton out of the castle. Then they helped Ezra by kidnapping Libby. "Dead Libby" was created by Dalton's inner self, or whatever he's called. RIGHT? Or am I completely losing my mind with this back and forth?

Honestly, she was pissed at what he did to her and what she had to do to get back into her time. So, he definitely deserved it all. Plus, he wanted to kill her, so yeah.

If I tried to summarize what happened in this book for everyone else and why it would be a giant question mark. But I was so out of it when I was listening to it that I don't know if it was just because of that, or if parts of the book just didn't make sense. Likely a bit of both.
