Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments This is the place for all those random rants and rambling you wanna do. Here's where we can just hang out and get to know each other while chatting about books that we all love.

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments Well I’m just starting Beneath a Scarlet Sky now and I’m worried 🥴

It’s like, long. 500 pages long. Which isn’t too bad. Except that I saw some reviews saying this wasn’t a realistic historical book.

The Mines of Moriah | 29 comments I wouldn't worry about that too much honestly. If you're interested in the actual history of the story you could always read a nonfiction about it later.

message 4: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments Yeah I know. I actually put it aside for the moment since I have other books to read.

✧B✧ | 1119 comments I'm reading Romanov by Nadine Brandes, which is historical fantasy. So far it's really good.

I hear ya. So many books so little time.😂

I read that one. Its good and I enjoyed it but the reason I gave it a lower rating is the ending. It's not a bad ending, I just personally didn't really like it.

Girl you have no idea.

I have probably 30-50 books in a box that I need to read to see if they're good since I got them cheap at a bookstore and have no clue how good they'll be. Plus i have between 5 and 10 series I want to reread this year (3 of them have 20+ books). And 5 or 10 new series I want to read. Plus a growing "want to read" here on GR. And I constantly see old favorites of mine and want to reread them. I'm swamped. lol

Goodness that is a lot!

✧B✧ | 1119 comments The never-ending cycle of finding more books to read. And now, two months in a row, F&F's book of the month has been one of my fav series, and now I want to re-read the rest of said series.

*Sighs* I love reading but it can be overwhelming to love it so much. lol

This summer I'm gonna try to follow a reading plan of always be reading,
1 Non Fic
1 Reread (standalone or series)
1 New standalone/series
1 Random other book (Just for that random book I wanna read)
1 Proof read (That box of books I mentioned)

So we'll see how it goes but it should help me stay on track with reading.

The never ending cycle of not only finding new books but also constantly being reminded of and wanting to read old faves. Part of the problem with being a rereader. I could probably spend the rest of my life never reading new books (just rereading old faves) and be a very happy reader.

message 14: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Yeah. Just as mentioned in regards to The Blades of Acktar and Out of Time series. I need to finish re-reading both of them now that I've re-read the first books.

message 17: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments Yeah I'm currently rereading two series, rereading one standalone, and reading another book. Lol. I really should stop starting so many books 😩

message 19: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments Pretty good! My week is going good so far which is a blessing. Last week really seemed to drag by, not sure why. This week on the other hand is disappearing with haste and I still need to order a book for my little sister since her birthday is arriving quicker then it should. lol. She turns 12 on the 21st. Which means I have less then a week to get her gift ordered... YIKES. I'm setting an alarm right now to do it tonight.

✧B✧ | 1119 comments I'm struggling with my writing lol. Four days of nothing, and today just 9 words, that don't even really move anything along. So, I'm feeling a little discouraged. Doesn't help that my ear has been aching.

message 22: by Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] , Assistant Mod (new)

Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] | 848 comments I've been in almost that same situation before, and it's been extremely discouraging, but you've got this, Bella! I'll pray for the words to come to you and for your ear to stop aching.

message 23: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Thanks. :) Yeah, I've been in this situation myself quite a few times, and it's really annoying. Not to mention it can sometimes be hard to tell when you need to push through, and when you actually need a break.

message 24: by Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] , Assistant Mod (new)

Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] | 848 comments You're welcome. Yeah, it really can be...

message 25: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments I'm currently trying to work on looking at the big picture of the overall series plot, because I don't really know what all's going to happen and when, but that's proving very difficult as well. And I considered trying to skip ahead, but then I wouldn't know where they'll be int the progression of enemies-to-lovers lol.

message 26: by Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] , Assistant Mod (new)

Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] | 848 comments I wish I could offer some suggestions, but the series I'm writing, the books are all stand-alones that are connected to each other, so I wouldn't know how to help with the type of series you are writing...

message 27: by ✧B (last edited May 15, 2024 11:28AM) (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Yeah, that's fine, I'm just trying to find some way to make progress. I decided to just make a new series plot chart (because my old one's messy, and even if it is on my laptop, I don't want to deal with it lol) starting with what's already happened, then what I know will happen, and maybe I'll figure something out. *shrugs* Better than just staring at the screen and doing nothing, I guess. I don't bother with all the plot points tho, just write down short scene summaries without labeling them lol.

message 28: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments And me here not being a writer can't offer any advice whatsoever. lol.

My bestie is currently writing an hour a day, 5 days a week. She's hoping to join the Author Conservatory this summer.

message 29: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Btw, what is everyone's thoughts on witchunter v. witch hunter? I've seen both used and am trying to figure out which is best. Of course, if I make it two words, that'll up my word count... 😉😂 And my computer keeps telling me that "witchunter" isn't a word, so maybe that's my sign.

message 30: by Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] , Assistant Mod (new)

Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] | 848 comments I write down scene summaries, too. Mainly when I don't know where it would go, or quite how I'd work it all out yet.

I would say two words

That's great! I've currently been trying to write at least 2 hours a day 5 days a week. That hasn't been going too well so far this week tho lol.

message 34: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Thanks guys. Yeah, two words looks better, doesn't it? Maybe I'll just go change every time I put "witchunter" to "witch hunter". It's still making progress lol.

Yeah she just finished school for good, so now that that's behind her she's focusing on her writing a lot more. She's working on the second draft of her first book (Christian fiction) so far, and she just started writing a devotional as well.

message 37: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Yeah, I've been putting a lot more work in since graduating last year. The plan is to publish soon, but I've got to finish a book first lol.

message 38: by ✧B (last edited May 15, 2024 11:27AM) (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Scrivener is now saying I've written 65 words, which means that all that witch hunter nonsense just gave me a 56-word difference. I'll take it. :)

message 39: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments @ Bets-- What type of Christian Fiction does your friend write?

message 40: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments Wdym what type? This is her first book she's ever written.

message 41: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Yeah, I was just wondering if she's writing contemporary or historical or fantasy, if it's a romance or not. That sort of thing. Just curious.

message 42: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments Oh I see. I haven't read a lot of contemporary but I think it would probably fall into that category..? It's set in more modern times. It's about twin 15 yr olds so it's not much romance.

message 43: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments Yeah, contemporary is just any fiction that's set in modern times. That's cool. So maybe YA?

message 44: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1185 comments Yeah it's YA.

I've been in that place before. I usually write every single day or at least review my writing. But I had a chunk of 18 months where I couldn't write a single word. At the time, I didn't know what was wrong with me and I felt awful all the time. I had ideas, but I just couldn't make my mind work on it. Later, I realized I was fighting a bad strep infection that had moved into my joints, I had a new baby, my dad was losing his ability to talk (and I knew I was losing him), and we had a new puppy. Looking back, I think I was just in need of a break and stressed out but at the time going through all of that, I didn't feel like was stressed. At the time, I felt fine except that I couldn't write.

message 46: by BooksNCrannies, Co-creator/Head Mod (new)

BooksNCrannies (booksncranniesofficial) | 548 comments Just entered in on this conversation. I can relate to struggling knowing how to plan the whole plot for a book. My sister and I are working on a book together (we would like it to be a trilogy) and it just seems so overwhelming to sort out all the details. Even though the planning is moving a lot slower than I want it to be, I like all the ideas and character sketches we are coming up with. Sometimes it's better to have the planning stage be the longest portion of creating your book. Yeah, it's fun to write but in the long run it's really worth it to have your plot and characters all worked out before diving into the writing process.

Of course, my advice might not be worth much since I don't have much experience yet. Lol! :-)

message 47: by ✧B (new)

✧B✧ | 1119 comments I was planning for my WIP to be the first in a trilogy, but now I think I might have to make it a duology instead. I don't usually plan a whole lot ahead of time, but I've been trying to do more. It's mor of a write some then plan some process for me tho lol

Writing a book with your sister sounds both fun and annoying. 😂Two of my sisters had me start a book with them at the same time back when we were little. We didn't get farther than a chapter or two in either of the lol.
