This Day in History: The Past- The start of the American Revolution: April 19th of 1775

This Day in History: The Present- The Solar Eclipse; April 8, 2024

Historic Hero- Irena Sendler was a polish maintenance worker at a ghetto during WW2. She used her job as a way to smuggle babies and children out. She saved the lives of around 2,500 children.

Historical Hiker- Elizabeth Blackwell, she was the first female doctor and paved the way for many more to follow.

This Day in History: The Past- The sinking of the RMS Lusitania on May 7, 1915

This Day in History: The Present- May 10- Solar storm that makes northern lights visible down to Alabama (Fun fact about this: It was the strongest magnetic storm since January 2005!)

Historic Hero- Amy Carmichael; she was an Irish missionary in India who rescued and helped many temple girls. She would sneak in the temple and steal them out. She ended up starting a village where she lived with all her girls and other helpers.

Historical Hiker- Jackie Robinson, first African-American MLB player.

Announcement : Starting this month (September 2024) we Mods will choose one member of this group to bestow upon him/her the honorable title of "Member of the Month."
Our first member will be chosen the beginning of October! 📆 The chosen member will be announced both in the Monthly Message and in the "General" folder under the new topic "Members of the Month" (which will be created shortly).
Choosing who to bestow this title upon will be based on a variety of factors � most notably will be the member's contribution to the group.
Just wanted to give y'all a heads up about that.

Hello everyone! I'm sad but also a little relieved to announce that we're gonna be taking a break from group messages and botms for an indefinite period of time. If you guys want to read books with other people feel free to ask people if they want to buddy read and I will make you guys buddy read chats if you want them.

I'm at a different and busier place in life right now then I was when we started this group and I don't have the time to give this group what it really needs so we've decided to cut back on some of the things here.

I don't know when or if we'll start those things up again. It will just depend on how life goes.

I do still love this group for the resources we have on the books lists. Keep posting book recs, time period lists, etc! But I don't know that I'll be super socially active on here. Love you all!
