BooksNCrannies (booksncranniesofficial) | 548 comments So I learned a very interesting fact while reading my book Out of the Depths. On February 24, 1942, a Japanese submarine snuck through the Santa Barbara Straights just north of Los Angeles and launched a small attack on California. Only ten shots were fired by the submarine before it went under the waters where it slipped by unnoticed and escaped. It was unsure what the intended target was but there was panic on shore and air raid sirens went off. No one was hurt in the attack thankfully. I found this very interesting so I thought I would share. I had no idea this attack occurred. Did any of you know about this event?

BooksNCrannies (booksncranniesofficial) | 548 comments Y'all probably know this, but back in the early days of America, people used to vote for both the president and vice president. So the president never got to choose his running mate back then.
This changed to our present system with the passage of the 12th Amendment in 1804.

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1187 comments I wish we still voted for Vice President. Tho in theory if you've got a good president you should be able to trust them with that choice...

Jasmine (Jazzie) [Jesus Loves You!!] | 848 comments Yeah, I think it'd be interesting if we still voted for our nice president, too.

BooksNCrannies (booksncranniesofficial) | 548 comments True, it would be neat. But wouldn't it create tension and conflict if the president and vice president elected were from two different sides of the political spectrum?

If we were still going by that system, that means that Trump and Harris would be either president or vice president. This is because the person with the most votes became the president, the runner-up would become the vice president.

So in this election since there aren't any other candidates, it would be either Trump: president Harris: vice president. Or Harris: president Trump: vice president.
Kinda interesting....

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1187 comments Ohhhhhhh. I didn't realize that. I thought there would be a separate election for the Vice President. It would create tension but I wish this country was mature enough to see past differences. Then it could be good to have both sides since you'd have differing opinions. Except that these days, people get angry if you differ in opinions with them.
