Michele | 6311 comments I have a question about this series: /series/4800...

There were apparently actually five runs of this series over a period of 50 years, each of which started over with #1.

Series 1 - September 1915 to May 1925 (382 issues)
Series 2 - May 1925 to June 1941 (744 issues)
Series 3 - June 1941 to April 1956 (358 issues)
Series 4 - June 1956 to June 1963 (168 issues)
Series 5 - February 1965 to 12 October 1968 (45 issues)

Right now these are all merged together in this single series but it's confusing since the numbering overlaps/restarts. It would be a lot less confusing if each of the five were split out into its own series, for example

Sexton Blake Library, 1st
Sexton Blake Library, 2nd
Sexton Blake Library, 3rd

Would that be ok? Is there any kind of rule about situations like this?

Related question: If the books must stay all in a single series, would it be appropriate on the series page to include the run as part of the book number, for example the 35th book in the first run would be 1:35; the 15th book in the second run would be 2:15; and so on.

Thank you!

Olga Silvertongue (olgasilvertongue) | 6720 comments Wow, that's a lot of work. I think your suggestion is great. Wikipedia says it's 5 series, not one.
You can see a similar situation with Nancy Drew books:

Michele | 6311 comments There will also need to be a Sexton Blake not-part-of-a-series-series. Have to think about that one :)
