Hi, everyone! This is the thread for the "Commit to one book monthly" challenge. In this thread, post one book you intend to read in May, so everyone else can see your pick. When you finish reading it, we'd love for you to come back and post your opinion. I expect everyone's TBRs to suffer because of this monthly reading challenge, but I'm prepared to make that sacrifice. Are you? :-D

Bonnie | 673 comments I'll commit to reading The Maid's Diary The Maid's Diary by Loreth Anne White since I'm reading it for my 12 +4 challenge plus it's my pick for an in person bookclub since I've had it on kindle awhile.

I'll commit to The Corner A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighbourhood (Canons) by David Simon -- my boyfriend's son and I are watching our way through The Wire while Jim is in school in South Florida for the next two months, and the book will make a good backdrop to the TV Series.

Jackie | 1061 comments The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak is for a book club meeting on June 9th and I'm #2 on the waitlist at the library. I hope I get it before the 9th as I really don't want to buy the book.

I read mine. Simon is a good reporter and definitely knows his subject. And it reminded me a lot of season 1 of the Wire, which is probably my favorite season.

Denise (derickert) | 1239 comments Finished Tom Lake by Ann Patchett , gave it 4 stars. Really enjoyed Meryl Streep reading this on the audiobook version.

If you like her narration, she also reads Nora Ephron's Heartburn, which is interesting because she also played the main character in the film.

I couldn't finish it. It was getting too creepy for me. I had put it down for a later time. 🥴

Oates is always very hit or miss with me. Think I'll give this one a miss. Thank you for the feedback, Diana!
