Elon | 1955 comments I was so happy when the list was updated a few months ago, it made the work of adding books to the database much easier! Thank you.
But I have some wishes that could make it even easier, hopefully without making it too complicated. What I wish to be included is noted in bold text, in an approximation on where I think it'd fit the best.
I'm open for more ideas, or notes/counters for my ideas as well, but I feel like these are the ones at least I have to back up on the most.

"The following information is required when requesting a book be added:
* Title:
* If new edition, link to the original book:
* Author(s) name(s):
* If applicable; translator(s)/Illustrator(s) etc:
* ISBN (or ASIN):
* Publisher:
* Publication Date Year:
* Publication Date Month:
* Publication Date Day:
* Page count or duration:
* Format (such as paperback, hardcover, ebook, audiobook, etc):
* Description in the language of the book:
* Language (for non-English books):
* Link to book page which[...] Social media is not an accepted source"

Olga Silvertongue (olgasilvertongue) | 6720 comments I don't like the phrase "If new edition, link to the original book". I understand what you mean "If it is a new edition, not a new book", but I would rename it. Something like "already existing", "the book on GR". I only saw the word "new" and missed the word "edition".

+1 to translator(s)/Illustrator(s)
+1 to description in the language of the book - that would be really helpful

For me personally, I hate how it is now:
Publication Date Year: 2024
Publication Date Month: 1
Publication Date Day: 1
I understand the meaning of why it was handed over like this, but it's hard for me to read the information.

Yeah, your first point troubled me a bit too. It easily gets either clunky or not very helpful, and I'm not sure how to clearly phrase it. It might not even be an important addition, but it would make it easier to connect books. But many normal users don't differentiate between new book or new editions either, so it might not help all that much either way?

I understand your point on the date, but I think it's great. So many times I've entered the date wrong because we use different formats around the globe. I mean, it's still an issue with different calendars, but not one as big.
I wouldn't mind if there were an easier way to get the same result, but I can't come up with anything.

Thanks for feedback and additions! :)

minzi | 333 comments Hi there,

I like your additions and I think the "if new edition" (maybe with a different wording) would be helpful. If the user does not know the difference between book and edition, this line would stay empty, otherwise it is not being forgotten to add ...

I was wondering if the original title (for translated edition) could be asked? I do of course a quick search if I find the book or another edition already, but when I don't know the book at all, it's rather a time consuming task to check, if there is already an edition in another language.

cheers, minzi

Using the name of the month, instead of the number, would solve this issue.

Linde | 6547 comments Good one Elon!
+1 Duration
+1 Adding translators, etc
+1 Description in the language of the book

Some ideas:
* Olga wrote: "I hate how it is now: Publication Year [..]": A new option for the Publication date is to use YYYY/MM/DD
* Elon wrote: "* If new edition, link to the original book": Would the Original Title be enough? Or should we add the 'existing edition on GR' as optional at the end? And I think it would be great if we have the OG title + date added to more and more books
* Add the hyperlinks where they can find extra information about it, when people copy/paste in the comment field, the hyperlinks do not exist anymore, but they can use it from the original message
* Language: delete 'non-English', makes it cleaner
* Is there a help page where it is explained which roles we can add? When we are in the 'Edit book page' and then in that field, as Librarians, we can see some preferred options. It would be great if we can link to something where it states the options and then have those options below in the overview as well.

What would that look like?
* Title:
* :
* If applicable, translator(s), illustrator(s), contributor(s), editor(s), narrator(s), Foreword and/or Afterword (per person + role):
* Original Title:
* , Year/Month/Date (YYYY/MM/DD), if (partly) known:
* :
* Publisher:
* Publication Date, Year/Month/Date (YYYY/MM/DD):
* :
* (such as paperback. hardcover, ebook, audiobook, boardbook, etc.):
* Description in the language of the book:
* Language:
* Link to book page which includes the cover on a NON-BOOKSELLER site, such as a publisher site, an author site, etc., so that we can check the data + add the cover. If linking to a site such as Imgur, Dropbox, etc. please state the original source of the image. No B&N or other bookseller links can be used as sources for covers or other book data, with the exception of Amazon and its subsidiaries. ):

Optional to add:
* Edition, optional:
* Does another editions of the book already exist on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ (for instance another cover, format, ISBN, ASIN or language)? Please add the link so that we can them (link the books to each other):
* Is your book part of a series? Title of the series or link to the series on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ:

There's some good wordings and additions here!
It's a balancing game to make the form not overwhelming for users, still informative enough for us, and I feel you're onto something.

I was about to recommend that before this change. Going "back" to that might be easier than the current system, but I haven't had any problems with the current one, so I'm not personally bothered by either.

I like this idea especially in adding a new edition. Sometimes, I got confused if it's existing or not so I had to double check it again. I also liked the link to the book page idea which is social medias are not acceptable to use and sometimes, they link a book page and I got confused if it's Publisher's Website, Author's website or even if it's acceptable to use.

I love this idea too! It's very specific and easy to understand. Sometimes, I saw a request that is not complete or specific like it don't have a book page or it lacks some of the details. Other request bump their request constantly that other request is been ignored. But anyway, I love this idea and it could be recommend:>
