Tami (tamicarvallo) | 6891 comments Hello, I came across these two books:

1) /book/show/6...
2) /book/show/6...

These are not actual editions which were published by the official publisher or author. They look like bootleg or pirated versions of the actual books but since the listings have been taken down from amazon I can't check. I checked the book edit log for both books and a librarian changed the author name from 'SPARKLING SAGH' to 'Holly Black'. SPARKLING SAGH does appear in the cover but if you read the covers carefully they say Holy Black not Holly Black. Please handle these records appropriately.

Thanks.

This is the same message I sent to support but they said they don't delete books. I never asked them to delete the books. The books are not editions by Holly Black. The amazon bot imported them with SPARKLING SAGH as the author (as seen on the cover). The cover also says Holy Black not Holly Black. I told them that and they said that I should provide them the correct author. I don't know the correct author, that's why I sent a ticket. I thought they could determine these things. I told them I don't want to edit war with a librarian or mess up making the wrong edit and get flagged. So I said I would ask in this group and they closed the ticket. What to do in this case?

annob [on hiatus] (annob) | 4048 comments Sorry to hear Support couldn't help or advise what to do. Given their response, and concidering what policy allows us to do, at least we can correct the author name to match the cover of the editions without getting into trouble.

As the "series name" bit doesn't appear on the covers (folk of air), I think that part of the title data could be removed too.

Doing those edits should ensure readers who want the real/known author to find her books on GR rather than the possible pirated editions.

Olga Silvertongue (olgasilvertongue) | 6721 comments I can suggest writing to support again, the same message. From my experience it can help. Another person will read it and may have a different answer. No need to say that you already wrote.

See the following discussion for pirated/illegal books that have been taken down from Amazon but live on in infamy on GR. Since the bot manages to delete OOP Kindle editions willy nilly, I'm not sure why the DMCA takedowns on Amazon can't get automatically removed from GR.
