Heejin Ahn (aheejin) | 353 comments Hello,

When creating a series, it looks people add the series name after the book name, such as "Book name (Series name, #2)". But I couldn't find the rule about the series names in parentheses in .... It looks like you can create a series just fine without putting the series name within ().

Also I've found some books whose series name within () is different from the actual series name they belong to. Not sure if that is intended or even allowed. For example, in this Korean book /book/show/5..., the series name is "내가 키운 S급들", but the name within the parentheses is "My S-Class Hunters [Novel]", which is the English translation of the actual series name.

So my questions are:
1. Is the rule that series names should be within () after the title mandatory or just recommended practice?
2. Is there a Librarian Manual entry about this rule?
3. If it is either mandatory or recommended, can the real series name and the name within () be different, as in the link I pasted above?

Arenda | 26398 comments 3. The series page should be in the original language of the book.
The series in the ( ) in the title field should be in the language of that edition.

Example:
/work/editio...

1/2. The Librarian Manual about the title field has information about series in the title field:

Series information may also be included in the title field. This is optional, but if series information is included, it should follow standard formatting. (See below.) If correct series information has been added to the title field, do not remove it from the book record

@Nic @Arenda Thanks a lot for the info! I didn't know there is a separate manual about the titles. I was only looking at the series manual.
