Michele | 6311 comments I'm curious about how/why some ISBNs get flagged as "Invalid." Several times I've been adding a book with the ISBN as shown on the publisher website, but for some reason GR flags it as invalid. If the publisher says that's the ISBN, shouldn't that be definitive? Why do some get flagged as invalid while others go through just fine? Inquiring minds want to know :)

Hi Michele, ISBN is a worldwide standard, so the first check Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ does is likely to see if it's a valid ISBN number or not.

Publishers buy the right to use a specific ISBN number and assign it to their book. Sometimes a wrong digit is entered by a human at the publishers, turning it into an malformed ISBN even if it is printed in the book, or on the website of the publisher.

Here's a site we can use to check if any given ISBN number is valid or not:

As for Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ CrazyBot flagging lots of editions as Invalid, even if the ISBN in itself is valid, that only staff can answer.
