Interesting to hear about the interesting back story/ background revealed in the McDonald memoir. How is Paul Reiser involved, co-writer? Maybe not the actor. I could look that up. :)
Good memoirs do add dimension to their subjects.

It *is* the actor Paul Reiser actually. They met somewhere and became good friends. Paul encouraged him to write his memoir, and fueled the content by sort of interviewing him and recording his responses which helped. He may have even done some editing/writing, I don't remember. At the end of the audiobook was a long dialogue between the two which explained their friendship and the collaboration. I don't think it's in the print copy but not sure.

What are the three, Gail?

The Witch Elm, In the Woods, and The Searcher. I'm not sure they are the best books for me to be reading at night...

Good to know. For some reason I thought it was next in a series after In the Woods. Just saw that it's not! Pushing it up on my reading list.

The Fury by Alex Michaelides. 4/5
Lana Farrar is a reclusive movie star who invites famous friends and family to her private Greek Island every year. A twisty tale of love and murder told by an unreliable narrator who keeps one guessing to the end.
The Witch Elm by. Tana French. Read by Paul Nugent. 4/5
A moody, brooding book about a young man who suffers a severe injury and returns to his ancestral home to recover, where a dark secret from his past is waiting to be unearthed. Tana is one of my favorites and knows how to spin a tale with rich characterization and setting, but this one took so long to unfold that I was getting impatient while listening. The narration by Nugent was stellar, however.
What a Fool Believes: A Memoir by Michael McDonald and Paul Reiser. Read by McDonald. 4/5
I heard his interview on PBS’s Fresh Air and was reminded of my secret crush on Michael McDonald. He’s got a voice like honey and some of his hits move me to my core. What I didn’t know was his life story, growing up in St. Louis and accompanying his dad to bars where dad sang. He’s also a learned songwriter and pianist--I had no idea of the musicianship behind his work. An enjoyable read/listen made more fun by the fact that I stopped here and there to Spotify some of the songs I love the most. The fact that he read the audio was icing on the cake.
