Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
I didn't do any twists.
My most creative twist on a prompt
Definitely the X prompt, for week 11, I read Wizard's First Rule because it was a favorite of an ex-girlfriend.
The prompt I "cheated" on
The closest to cheating is week's 3's "A suggestion that didn't make the list". I just read a book, and then after not seeing a prompt it fit for, found one from the rejects list that would.
My favorite prompt
Well, my favorite prompt is actually 'A Second Book that Fits Your Favorite Prompt' because it gets you a double up on the bets prompt. For that, I chose the 'What a Wonderful World' prompt because it gave me two opportunities to read books by Fannie Flagg.
My least favorite prompt
There are a few prompts that I have a beef with:
The 'Author's Name Has JQXZ in It' would have been one of the best, except J is not a rare letter AT ALL.
'A Book With A Senior Citizen' - Again, too easy. Doesn't even have to be the MC.
'A Book from a Five Books List' - Maybe just because I spent way too much time reading these lists and coming up with nothing before reversing it and seeing if I couldn't find any lists that have a specific book I want to read. (So, it's another wild card.)
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! by Fannie Flagg. I was definitely on a horror/sci-fi/fantasy kick coming out of 2023, this isn't even genre fiction. But it lead me into a series which I then used to cleanse any bad book after taste, along the way.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
I read a lot of bad books, but I don't think I can blame any of those on the challenge. I would have read bad books, regardless.

...right up to the last prompt: Cozy Mystery. Alas, this proved to be my least favorite prompt, and my least favorite book.
This year, for this and another challenge, I needed to read books in two "cozy" genres: cozy mystery and cozy fantasy. If nothing else, I can now say I gave these cozy genres a try, though I won't be returning to them soon.

If you're interested, feel free to answer these questions and let us kn..."
just a heads up, this should say 2024 not 2023. Thought I was int the wrong place for a minute when I saw the 2023

Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
Yes, for one round, I read books that fitted the multi-choice prompts, e.g. I read books set in all the cities in the #5 list.
My most creative twist on a prompt
Nothing very creative, but I read Rise Up Women for #11, using putting an X on a ballot paper for the X connection.
The prompt I "cheated" on
No cheating.
My favorite prompt
I used #10, history book or historical fiction as my favourite prompt for #48, as I read a lot in those genres, but I also really liked #4 ( Wonderful World )
My least favorite prompt
I thought this was a very good year for prompts. I suppose my least liked was #52, cosy mystery, but it was easy to read for.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
Knowledge of Angels
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
I was disappointed in Edge Of Evil, but I'm still glad I read it, as it gave me a book set in Sedona.
Thanks to mods for a very enjoyable 2024 read.

- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
Well, I was going to try and clear out my TBR. I abandoned that idea at about week 2. LOL.
- My most creative twist on a prompt
4. A book related to something mentioned in the lyrics of What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong - I used A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair. There is something in the book that I relate to some of the lyrics - I don't want to write it out because it is a big spoiler.
- The prompt I "cheated" on
13. A book that is on a Five Books List; reader’s choice of which list - I hated this prompt. I found Bila Yarrudhanggalangdhuray by Anita Heiss on a list that had one winner and five runners up. Since this book was on the runners up - I used that as the "five."
- My favorite prompt
22. A book by an author from an African country - I read The Eternal Ones by Namina Forna
- My least favorite prompt
The five lists one.

n/a
- The prompt I "cheated" on:
50. A book posted in one of the ATY Best Book of the Month ('23 or '24); I made sure I recommended as my best in 2024.
- My favorite prompt:
3. A book that fits a suggestion that didn’t make the final list
- My least favorite prompt:
23. A book related to Boats, B, B, B, or JB
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
Remarkably Bright Creatures
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!):
The Sister

All the Sinners Bleed
Bright Young Women
Listen for the Lie
The Kaiju Preservation Society
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc) I read in order but no interesting twists. The hardest part of reading in order is that I get most of my books from the library and that seems to have gotten a lot harder in recent years. I need to plan ahead with limited holds.
- My most creative twist on a prompt I am not sure how creative it was but to make the Land, Sea and Air prompt a little difficult I made sure that the cover depicted the word and that I could spell the word with the words in the title.
- The prompt I "cheated" on When I picked my book for a book with a chilling atmosphere I thought it would have a creepy murder house as the back drop and it wasn't really that chilling in the end.
- My favorite prompt 17. A book involving intelligence
- My least favorite prompt I didn't have any that I hated but had the hardest time finding something to fit 6. A book with wings on the cover. This year getting books from the library was a bigger challenge then I have had in the past so early in the year my planning was off.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!) The Kaiju Preservation Society
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t! French Milk

This is the earliest I have every completed a reading challenge. Usually I don't finish until November or December, if I manage to finish at all!
My List Page
5 Star books that I read for the ATY Challenge

Two Twisted Crowns
Paladin's Hope
Silver Under Nightfall
Court of Wanderers
The Will of the Many
A Marvellous Light
Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
Nope.
My most creative twist on a prompt
Not all that creative, but I read Thornhedge for the prompt "A book related to the name of one of Snow White's seven dwarfs" since it is a sleeping beauty retelling.
The prompt I "cheated" on
No cheating, although I made things easy on myself for the two prompts involving similar covers by reading from a series.
My favorite prompt
A book that is not a novel. But I also loved: A book with a touch of magic, a book that has been on your tbr for over a year, and a science or science fiction book.
My least favorite prompt
A book connected to a flavor of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and A book by an author from an African country. Only because I had to do research for both of these to find books that fit. For the African country prompt there were books recommended in the Listopia from authors that were not technically from Africa and so I found that confusing. I did enjoy the books I chose for both of these prompts so it all worked out in the end =).
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
The Visit by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I'd never read from this author before and I'm looking forward to checking out more of their work.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
While I liked some books more than others this year, I don't think there are any that I wish I hadn't read.
Looking forward to next year's list!

- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
Not really, I did end up reading a lot of graphic novels this year and fit as many as I could in.
- My most creative twist on a prompt
Probably #41 a chilling atmosphere. I used The Kingdom of Sweets for this. It's not a thriller but it did have a weirdness too it that I figured counted.
- The prompt I "cheated" on
I wouldn't say cheated but, I put Hula for a book related to land. But if I remember correctly it talked a lot about the connection Hula has to the understanding of the land and it was also about them keeping their land.
- My favorite prompt
44. A book with a touch of magic
- My least favorite prompt
16. A book related to the phrase “It’s Raining Cats and Dogs
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
“Odder Katherine Applegate
I actually got this to read with my nephew but, he would always fall asleep and then he "got over it" (his words) and so I read it myself.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
“Call Me by Your Name Andre Aciman
“Ayesha at Last Uzma Jalaluddin
There both in genres I read but, I just didn't like these very much.

Five-star books I read:
1. The Lincoln Highway
2. Two Old Women: An Alaskan Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival
7. Where'd You Go, Bernadette
10. Every Duke Has His Day
11. That Affair Next Door
14. Blessing of the Lost Girls
15. Three-Inch Teeth
16. Hard Rain
17. Greenmantle
18. Miss Hickory
19. The Lost City of the Monkey God
21. Ten Things I Hate About the Duke
24. How to Stand Up to a Dictator
27. Pay Dirt
29. Blue Skies by Carr, Robyn Reprint Edition MassMarket(2012/8/28)
35, The Octopus in the Parking Garage: A Call for Climate Resilience

46.Pitch Dark
48. The Thursday Murder Club
50. The Reading List
51. Random in Death

Everybody Sees the Ants
Better than the Movies
Good Material
The Remains of the Day
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
No twists
- My most creative twist on a prompt
Maybe #38 & 39: Two books with similar covers. I used Tomb Sweeping and Good Material. The covers don't look exactly the same, but they both use panels on their covers so I counted it.
- The prompt I "cheated" on
#3: a book that fits a suggestion that did not make the list and #48: a second book that fits your favorite prompt. I just read books, and then after not seeing a prompt that fit for them, I used one from the rejects list or a prompt I already completed that did.
- My favorite prompt
This was my first year participating in this challenge and I liked the creative prompts I've never encountered before.
#4: a book related to something mentioned in the lyrics of "What a Wonderful World"
#34: a book related to the name of one of Snow White's seven dwarfs
- My least favorite prompt
#52 a cozy mystery. I don't really read mysteries, and if I do I prefer them dark. I was not looking forward to this but I did end up enjoying the book I used for this prompt.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
There were many!
Boys and Oil: Growing Up Gay in a Fractured Land (#27: a book related to land)
Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad (#19: a book connected in some way to any of the Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavors)
Furia (#31: a book related to "Going for the Gold")
The Country of the Blind: A Memoir at the End of Sight (#45: a book that is not a novel)

- 5 Star books that I read for the ATY Challenge
Thirteen Guests
OlioLore Olympus: Volume Two
18 Tiny Deaths: The Untold Story of Frances Glessner Lee and the Invention of Modern Forensics
Lord Edgware Dies
Above Ground
Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics
Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore

Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc) not this year
- My most creative twist on a prompt For my 3 books related to land, sea, and air, I read three books about pioneering women in travel.
Ladies of the Canyons: A League of Extraordinary Women and Their Adventures in the American Southwest
Maiden Voyages: Magnificent Ocean Liners and the Women Who Traveled and Worked Aboard Them
Come Fly The World: The Jet-Age Story of the Women of Pan Am
- The prompt I "cheated" on
I didn't have any cheats but one of my bigger stretches was using The Crooked Banister - there's a robot in the story and though he's definitely not sentient or anything you could call AI, I called it close enough.
- My favorite prompt
a book with a chilling atmosphere - this could easily be everything I read haha
- My least favorite prompt
A book that is on a Five Books List - I just personally found the website hard to navigate and a bit repetitative
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) I don't think any of my bad reads this year were ATY's fault. Popsugar on the other hand has some crimes to answer for...

That is so cool! I love it.
I loved Dolly Parton's book - I listened to it on Audible, and it was enchanting.
Misty wrote: "I loved Dolly Parton's book - I listened to it on Audible, and it was enchanting."
I also listened to the audiobook and loved it!
I also listened to the audiobook and loved it!

No twists this year!
- My most creative twist on a prompt
I'm quite pleased with 11. A book with an X connection, which I filled by reading Raffles: Further Adventures of the Amateur Cracksman. The tie here is that Raffles, in this set of stories, is technically an ex-Raffles (he faked his own death).
I also liked 31. A book related to “Going for the Gold, which I filled with A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by KJ Charles. A major plot in the book is one of the characters hunting for gold!
- The prompt I "cheated" on
I feel a little like I cheated on 28. A book related to sea, by filling it with Wheels Up. The characters are both in the navy! They do both go to sea at (as I recall) multiple points! It's just not absolutely front and centre in the plot.
- My favorite prompt
I did like 48. A second book that fits your favorite prompt, for the flexibility of it. I filled it with 45. a book that is not a novel (which I guess counts as a second answer XD).
- My least favorite prompt
42. A book with a sound-related word in the title drove me to the point of madness. I filled it in the end with Whisper, but it took far too much concentrated thought.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
I read Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead for 50. A book posted in one of the ATY Best Book of the Month threads in 2023 or 2024. It was such a good book! Very odd, but in the best possible way.
I also bumped This Is What It Sounds Like: What the Music You Love Says About You significantly up my tbr for 7. A book with a pronoun in the title, and absolutely adored it.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
I read The Lady Queen: The Notorious Reign of Joanna I, Queen of Naples, Jerusalem, and Sicily for 33. A book involving travel, and found it rather dull.

- 5 Star books that I read for the ATY Challenge
The Echo of Old Books
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc): nope!
- My most creative twist on a prompt: A book with an X connection
- The prompt I "cheated" on: none
- My favorite prompt: A book that is part of a series
- My least favorite prompt: A book related to something mentioned in the lyrics of What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
Starter Villain
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
My Sister, the Serial Killer

I Know This Much Is True
Northanger Abbey
The Frozen Deep
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc): Where I couldn't find a book I wanted to read, I would fulfill the prompt with multiple short stories or couple of 1 act plays for an individual prompt, did that with 3 prompts
- My most creative twist on a prompt
Prompt # 40, wild animals, one of the short stories I read was entitled Tyrannosaurus Rex by Ray Bradbury which is an extinct wild animal in the title
- The prompt I "cheated" on
Prompt #51, I did not finish the book (it was that bad) and did not replace it because nothing else published this year I wasn't even remotely interested in
- My favorite prompt
Prompt #3, a book that fits a suggestion that didn't make it to the final list, I could pick one that I wanted to fulfill from a list of suggestions, not pinned down to a specific prompt
- My least favorite prompt
Prompt #40, involving a wild/endangered animal
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!) I Know This Much Is True and The Frozen Deep
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) End of Story. In fact, I didn't finish it because it was so bad.

50. A book posted in one of the ATY Best Book of the Month threads in 2023 or 2024 - I always enjoy looking through other members' favorites
- My least favorite prompt
52. A cozy mystery - I don't read these in general, but I found The Cat Who Saved Books, which was good
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
16. A book related to the phrase "It's Raining Cats and Dogs"
And the Birds Rained Down by Jocelyne Saucier
My list of books read for this challenge may be found here:
/topic/show/...

- 5 Star books that I read for the ATY Challenge - Somewhere Beyond the Sea, Kill for Me, Kill for You. First Lie Wins
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc) - As many new 2024 releases as possible
- My most creative twist on a prompt - #35 - sci-fi - Orbital
- The prompt I "cheated" on - #42 - kids book - The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming: A Christmas Story
- My favorite prompt -#51 - published in 2024
- My least favorite prompt - #19 - Ben & Jerry's
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!) -#16 - Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) -#26 - End of Story

- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc): no twists*
- My most creative twist on a prompt: I used two books in a series for books with similar covers*
- The prompt I "cheated" on: I didn't really need to cheat on any*
- My favorite prompt: A book related to Boats, Beaches, Bars, Ballads, or Jimmy Buffett*
- My least favorite prompt:a book that fits a suggestion that didn't make the list, this was a pain to figure out*
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!): Role Playing by Cathy Yardley. I used this for "book with an X connection" because it's a romance about Gen X characters. I was interested in this book but might not have gotten around to it if not for the prompt.*
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!): Haven by Emma Donoghue for a Book Posted in One of the Best Books of the Month Threads. This book made me both mad and sad.

5 Star books that I read for the ATY Challenge:
Golemcrafters (My review is here)
I did have a good amount of 4s and 4.5s. I'm actually surprised to realize I've only read one 5 star book so far this year!
Any twists on the challenge? My unintentional twist (because I was primarily focused on the other challenge) is that 25 out of 50 books that I read for ATY feature Jewish main characters.
My most creative twist on a prompt: For "A book with an X connection,' I used Furies of Calderon, which is set in a fantasy Roman-inspired world. The series is called Codex Alera and people are named things like Aldric Ex Gladius. There are a lot of Xs.
The prompt I "cheated" on: I don't think it's a cheat, but maybe a stretch. In The Bodyguard, the main character's family land is important to the story, there are numerous scenes that take place at specific different locations on the land. I used this book for "A book related to land."
My favorite prompt: The rejects prompt, "A book that fits a suggestion that didn’t make the final list."
My least favorite prompt: "A book related to something mentioned in the lyrics of What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong." It's a great song, but there was just too much going back and forth between books and lyrics and it wasn't any fun.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!): The very last book I read for ATY, which I finished reading today, was One of Us Knows, for the "Edgar Award-winning author" prompt. I enjoyed reading this book so so very much. So spooky, such unreliable narrator(s), time skips, haunted house, it was great.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!): As much as I love the punny titles and the idea of a cozy book, I am just not a cozy mystery person. A Deck Stacked for Murder has an appealing theme (big city gal opens a tarot cafe in a small town) but it's simply not my genre.
If anyone is interested in seeing which books I used for each prompt, including some separated out tracking of the books with Jewish MCs, my challenge plan is here.

Divine Rivals
The Titan’s Curse
The Door of No Return
Brown Girl Dreaming
Spy x Family, Vol. 11
The Paradise Problem
Dinosaur Sanctuary, Vol. 1
Lore Olympus: Volume Six
The Battle of the Labyrinth
When Among Crows
Once & Future, Vol. 1: The King is Undead
Funny Story
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
No rereads allowed.
- My most creative twist on a prompt
Nothing stands out.
- The prompt I "cheated" on
I didn't cheat on this but I have been on Popsugar.
- My favorite prompt
Author from Canada, Australia or New Zealand. The Endless War
- My least favorite prompt
I really don't like prompts that are clearly multiple prompts in one but still cozy mystery was the worst, I did not like the book I read as well. A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
Snow White Learns Witchcraft
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking I like Kingfisher but I would have dnfed this if not for the tough prompt.

- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc) - I read in order
- My most creative twist on a prompt - No creativity here
- The prompt I "cheated" on - No cheating
- My favorite prompt - #2 A book connected to something you read in 2023. #37 A book that is part of a series

- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) - Other Birds

- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)- no
- My most creative twist on a prompt - Going for the Gold:

- The prompt I "cheated" on: The Seven Dwarves. Didn't quite feel right, but I got fed up with trying to find a book that did... I read

The book is really good, though!
- My favorite prompt: Science/Science Fiction
- My least favorite prompt - The Seven Dwarves.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)

- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)

1. 5 Star books that I read for the ATY Challenge
The Bancroft Strategy by Robert Ludlum
The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly
The Lamplighters by Emma Stonex
La protégée by Marlene Charine
Blacktop Wasteland by S.A. Cosby
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez
Now You See Me by Sharon J. Bolton
First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston
2. No twists on the challenge.
3. My most creative twist on a prompt: Going for the gold.
I didn't tie this prompt to an (Olympic) sport or race. Rather, I chose a book where the main character was involved in gold heist.
4. The prompt I "cheated" on: A book with an X connection.
I stretched this one by choosing a book that involved a doctor who had patients x-rayed.
5. My favorite prompt: A book with a senior citizen. I had lots of options for this one.
5.My least favorite prompt: A book related to Boats, Beaches, Bars, Ballads, or Jimmy Buffett
But I did manage to find a good option for this prompt in Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins.
6. A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!): A book with a touch of magic.
For this prompt, I read Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie N. Holmberg. I totally loved the house's mischievous personality.

Three Days and a Life by Pierre Lemaitre - This is a book in translation by a French author that I used for # 32. A book with a number in the title.
The Bald Eagle: The Improbable Journey of America's Bird by Jack Emerson Davis
The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
Shadow of Doubt (Scot Harvath #23) by Brad Thor
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc): No twists
- My most creative twist on a prompt: I used X marks the spot to read # 11. A book with an X connection - The Map Thief: The Gripping Story of an Esteemed Rare-Map Dealer Who Made Millions Stealing Priceless Maps
- The prompt I "cheated" on: I looked back at the prompts and didn't find any place where I cheated.
- My favorite prompt: 3. A book related to Boats, Beaches, Bars, Ballads, or Jimmy Buffett - I read The Narrowboat Summer.
- My least favorite prompt: 50. A book posted in one of the ATY Best Book of the Month threads in 2023 or 2024 - I read The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!): Wolf Hall (Thomas Cromwell, #1) by Hilary Mantel. I ended up reading the trilogy and really enjoyed. Each book gets better than the last.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) Blue Shoes and Happiness (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, #7) by Alexander McCall Smith. I stopped reading this series years and years ago, but I was looking for an "easy read" as this was one of the last few books I read for the challenge. These books all read the same for me, and I couldn't wait to be finished.

5 star books - She Who Became the Sun
The Great Halifax Explosion: A World War I Story of Treachery, Tragedy, and Extraordinary Heroism
James
Lucy by the Sea
A Song for Arbonne
The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder
Any twists - every book had to count for at least one other challenge in one of my GR groups
My most creative twist on a prompt - Going for the Gold
Sacred Games is set during the original ancient Greek Olympics - this is a very fun mystery series
The prompt I cheated on - none
Favorite prompt - history or historical fiction
Least favorite prompt - a book with a sound-related word in the title. I found this surprisingly hard and settled for the word "song"
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY challenge (but I'm so glad I did) - Happiness Falls for Happy from the 7 Dwarfs.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) - none since I would have read them for other challenges

5 Star books that I read for the ATY Challenge
The Source
Bad Monkey
Funny Story
Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc) - Not this year
My most creative twist on a prompt
- Ben & Jerry's flavor: Half-Baked: The Big Kahuna features a character who is enamored with the Devil's Lettuce
The prompt I "cheated" on:
- A book with a pronoun in the title - Not really a cheat, but 'My' in Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone is a weak possessive pronoun
My favorite prompt:
A book related to Boats, Beaches, Bars, Ballads, or Jimmy Buffett - Bubbles Up, Jimmy!
My least favorite prompt
- A book that is on a Five Books List - I struggled mightily with this prompt and pray that I never see it again!
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
- The Source has stayed with me since I finished it, but there is no one IRL that I can recommend it too and then discuss it with.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) - Flaubert's Parrot
- GR listed it as a novel, but I'm not sure what it wanted to be. Part biography, part historical fiction, some narrative fiction, a dash of a list and timeline, it cooked up into a big mess after a promising premise. I used it as part of my Jimmy Buffett prompt since Flaubert is mentioned in one of my favorite song (Love in the Library) and fans are called Parrotheads. Still my favorite prompt, but a disappointing fulfillment. I finished it hoping that in the end I could see the point.

2. Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc) - Don’t know if this is a twist per se but every one of the 52 books I read were actual books, have not picked up my Kindle in over a year.
3. My most creative twist on a prompt - none
4. The prompt I "cheated" on - none
5. My favorite prompt - anything that makes it easy for me to pick something I like to read and most likely have in my ever growing TBR pile, prompts like a mystery or thriller, chilly atmosphere, etc
6. My least favorite prompt - Nothing in this year’s list I would consider a least favorite. Originally maybe the history or historical fiction prompt, but I had watched a tv series I very much enjoyed called “The Last Kingdom. It was based on a book series so this gave me an excuse to also read the book.
7. A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!) The Stranger Diaries by Elly Griffiths. This was my first book by her and let’s just say I am a huge fan now and have read book 2 in this series and started one of her other series.
8. A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!) Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak. I had such high hopes and I was able to stick with it to the end, but it left me underwhelmed.
Now on to complete the Fall seasonal challenge! )

Interesting that you love mysteries and thrillers but had trouble with historical fiction. There are lots of historical mysteries and thrillers (Jack the Ripper, anyone?) Glad you found something else, I also liked The Last Kingdom, though not enough to read more of the series.

The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King (Related to night)
When Among Crows (ATy BBotM)
The Innkeeper Chronicles (X connection)
Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc)
Nope. I did do a side challenge of 25 prompts from previous lists - and now you're all copying me with the anniversary challenge for next year.😜
My most creative twist on a prompt
For "Going for Gold", I read a book about marrying for money, aka gold digging. (You'll Do: A History of Marrying for Reasons Other Than Love) It ended up being way more depressing than I was anticipating.
The prompt I "cheated" on
I read We Should All Be Feminists for African author, but at 52 pages, it is barely a book. But I DNFed the book I originally picked, and I wasn't feeling any of the other books I found, and I just wanted to be done with the challenge already.
My favorite prompt
A book posted on a ATY best book of the month thread, is always one of my favourite prompts. I also loved the pronoun in the title, because it amused me just how many times a book I read had a pronoun in the title.
My least favorite prompt
A book that is on a Five Books List; reader’s choice of which list. I straight up used a wild card to avoid this.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (A book related to Boats, Beaches, Bars, Ballads, or Jimmy Buffett.)
I had avoided reading this but it's only 50/50 with the challenge and the trailers for the movie pushing me to read this book. But the only books I wouldn't have read for sure without the challenge were all pretty meh.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking (A cozy mystery.) I've loved almost all the other books by T. Kingfisher that I've read, but I would have DNFd this if it wasn't for this prompt. I am not a cozy mystery person, so I wasn't going to find anything better. I still ended up giving the book a 3 because it got good by the end.

/topic/show/... is my completed list (note that I forgot to list all of the months where I finished the books)
One 5 star books used for this challenge, but it was a reread The Raven in the Foregate for #2 because I read a different book in that series in 2023
No Twists
Nothing particularly creative but I did find a different list of the 25 most beautiful cities in the world because Vancouver, BC is far more beautiful than cities like NYC, IMO and it was posted by one of our mods somewhere for others to see :)
Didn't have to "cheat" as far as I can remember or based on what I can see, which is amazing for me (this probably won't happen in 2025!)
Least Favourite prompt-- read a book on a 5 star list since I dislike list prompts, but at least this wasn't as onerous (for me, not for everyone :) ) as the one we have for next year

2. Book connected to something you read in 2023 Hitting a Straight Lick with a Crooked Stick by Zora Neale Hurston

52. A cozy mystery The Mystery Guest byNita Prose

I know, right? I just can't get into them but then again, a good Agatha Christie is always good too. I am so over Jack the Ripper, lol!

I didn't really rate most of the books I read.
- Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc):
The biggest twist is that this was my first ever challenge, I had already read 210 books so far this year and joined this challenge this week (just found out about it) and was able to find books for each prompt from the books that I have already read this year. So, I guess I did the challenge a bit backwards. LOL but it worked out and I can't wait for next year and being able to plan ahead.
- My most creative twist on a prompt:
A book connected in some way to a Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Flavor - the flavor I chose was Glampfire Trail Mix and connected it with the book Love and Other Conspiracies because the characters are hunting Big Foot and other cryptids and as part of their research they were camping and following trails in the woods.
- The prompt I "cheated" on:
I don't think I cheated on any, unless you count the fact that I read all my books this year before joining this challenge and matched the prompts to the books I have already read throughout the year.
- My favorite prompt:
My favorite prompt was a book that fits a suggestion that didn't make the final cut and that prompt was 'a character dealing with mental health or cognitive challenges' I think it was an inclusive and important prompt (to me as a neurodivergent person).
- My least favorite prompt:
My least favorite prompt was 'a book by an author from Canada, Australia, or New Zealand'. Mostly because it was hard to go through 210 books and have to try to figure out and research where the authors were from.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!):
None of them because these were all books that I had already read this year and didn't chose because of the challenge.
- A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!):
None of them because these were all books that I had already read this year and didn't chose because of the challenge.

It's great that you were able to do the challenge after the fact. The first year I was here I started in January, but after I finished, just for fun I looked up the previous year's challenge (from before I was a member) and was able to plug in a book for each prompt.

Any twists on the challenge?
No
My most creative twist on a prompt
I didn't have the feeling that I had solved the prompts
very creatively.
The prompt I "cheated" on
I read The Bell Jar for "A book with a sound-related word in the title"
My favorite prompt
A book involving travel.
I think I like to read books that involve some kind of travel.
My least favorite prompt
A book with a tittle that ends in A, T, Y
It was very annoying looking for that.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!)
The Library of the Dead
I searched for a long time for a book by an African author that I wanted to read. In the last years I had read a lot of books by African authors, so most of the books I was interested in I had already read. This book was my last hope and the author delivered. It was a 5 star read and I look forward to reading more in the series.
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!)
I used Spaceman of Bohemia because the German title fulfilled "A book with a title containing 6+ words". The first half of the book was good, but the second half was very confusing and boring.

I don't rate
Any twists on the challenge? (ie in order, all nonfiction, all picture books, etc):
no
My most creative twist on a prompt:
I was pleased with reading Outofshapeworthlessloser: A Memoir of Figure Skating, F*cking Up, and Figuring It Out for a a book related to 'Going for the Gold.' Both the author's name, Gracie Gold, and the subject matter, competing for elite figure skating medals, fit the prompt.
The prompt I "cheated" on:
I used more audio books due to health problems, but every book fit!
My favorite prompt:
a book with a touch of magic
My least favorite prompt:
A book related to Boats, Beaches, Bars, Ballads, or Jimmy Buffett
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (but I’m so glad I did!):
I may have gotten to it eventually, but the book related to the phrase "It's Raining Cats and Dogs" prompt gave me the nudge to finally read The Art of Racing in the Rain
A book I might not have read if not for the ATY Challenge (and I wish I hadn’t!):
Chronicles of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery for A book by an author known by their initials. It was okay, but not up to the standard of her 8-book Anne of Green Gables series.

- My most creative twist on a prompt Probably "Wings on the cover" where I used a book with a character on the cover with wings tattooed on his neck

- My favorite prompt "Two books with similar covers"

- My least favorite prompt "A book involving intelligence"
